Let me guess, they over-charge their customers and pay the equivalent of slave labor to their drivers?

Actually one of the points made is that they don't charge the customers enough because none of these businesses are actually turning a profit.

They def fuck over the drivers though.

Just order delivery pizza or chinese guys. Or just do carry out. These things are rarely worth their cost unless you're actually unable to obtain food any other way. I'm talking $10+ markups for simple orders.

I mean, obviously.
They also fraudulently list restaurants that don't actually have agreements w/ them and have people just go in and buy stuff as if they're the customer, just to deliver it to the actual customers. Which leads to situations like a bakery in the pandemic era selling milkshakes w/o lids that some guy then took in his car to deliver to someone else.
They also will punish restaurants that refuse to join them by claiming on their app that the restaurant is closed or not taking orders when they are (just not w/ your stupid app).

Yeah, and there's also ghost kitchens: big chain restaurants under a unique name in apps and presented as a local business But if you google its location, it's like a Buffalo Wild Wings or something.

Like hell they don't. Their revenue for 2023 was 8.6 billion. No way their expenses are also that high

My favorite part was probably the one where Jim Cramer was giggling and smiling about their illegal business practices, because I have an intense rational hatred of Cramer and continue to be pissed off that he has his job and all that money when he's so fucking moronic and evil.

At one point there were like 3 Mexican places inside one Pepes Mexican Restaurant on Grubhub.

This is probably my most "OK Boomer" train of thought that I have.

The concept of Uber Eats and Door Dash as SO lost on me, becasue I really don't see ordering food for pick-up as that much of an inconvenience.

Now, I understand there are people that don't have a car/physically can't drive/are shut-ins/etc and they deserve take out food as well, but at some point you just kinda have to draw the line.

Paying upwards of $20 just to have one extra value meal delivered sound insane to me.

I'm just baffled John Oliver ruined another yet thing also ruined by capitalism while offering a positive final thought that didn't make anyone feel fucking depressed.

That's gotta be a first.

When my parents ran their food truck doordash/ubereats were like the bane of their existence.

Yelp as well. Yelp blocks high rated reviews unless you pay a premium and they don't do anything unless you're paying to combat unfair or frivolous reviews. Basically food review mafia.
