Was expecting something similar to Malice at the Palace. That said, 8 players involved in fighting is still pretty crazy though.

Hockey isn't as popular as other sports so it can still get away with it. Also, I think fights in hockey are usually much more "structured" than fights in other sports.

They can't really do anything other than hold onto each other and throw right hand haymakers or they'd fall over.

But yeah, hockey has always had this element of shit talking and Enforcers and Goons. I haven't seen much hockey fighting in a while and a few of them tend to get broken up after like 10 seconds.

Whats new? Thats all they do in that so called sport Ice Hockey anyway.

All they do in that is flop/dive and get into fights.

If you have seen one Ice Hockey fight you have seen them all.

Ejection is new though. It used to be a 5 minute penalty box thing. That's why that musician was called "Five for Fighting"

Yeah it is a "sport" where they go out on to an ice rink carrying sticks and a puck but that is only a rouse and pretense as all they will be doing is fighting/diving/flopping for the next hour or so.

It's always been weird to me that fighting is seen as part of the sport. I remember playing an old hockey game on either NES or Genesis. And they even included fighting as a game mechanic there

I know official NHL games still had fights as a game mechanic 15 years ago (no idea if they still do). Meanwhile at the time the NFL was cracking down on things such as tackling after the play in video games because they wanted to give the illusion of player safety.

They're slowly phasing out fighting and the WWE antics from the sport across the planet.
It's definitely trending down.
This sort of 5 on 5 fighting happens maybe once a year, if that.

I'm in Montreal and saw the Habs and Panther game and saw 2 all-out fights with both teams coming to blows

Wtf happened that caused this. I was there when the Devils flattened Bedard and a massive brawl throughout two periods happened too.

It's funny my friends that are huge hockey fans actually consider hockey these days to be wussified and for babies. Meanwhile we have people in this topic saying hockey is too violent and pointless.

A tale of two worlds. Meanwhile I think it's just a fast paced game with constant action unlike something like baseball or football. Very enjoyable to watch.

They obviously had some kind of agreement to do that before the game started lol. Fights don't just break out like that. They were all clearly ready for it.

Agreed. I find hockey exciting to watch, even though my team STINKS (Buffalo Sabres).

Here in Britain almost every FOOTBALL team fans have songs to rubbish ther rivals/teams they hate and sing them no matter who they are playing against.

For instance fans of the team I support Glasgow Rangers will often sing songs about their hatred of their bitter rivals Glasgow Celtic even when they aren't playing them and it is like that in stadiums across the UK.
