I'm searching for a form of cardio that won't strain my knees and feet too much. Considering my budget constraints..ie I am poor, I'm contemplating getting a bike.

If you don't see yourself in a situation where you need the gears and suspension, a city bike is cheaper and would do the job too. But if you plan on taking it off road or there are a lot of steep hills where you live, get the mountain bike

I bought a stationary bike for 200 dollars. Maybe just get that? It'll help with exercise without having to go anywhere.

I'm going to post recommendations in the wellness topic but avoid Wal Mart bikes if you can. Most important is the surface you're gonna be riding on. Road bikes are nice but hybrids or gravel bikes may be worthy of your consideration if you plan to hit trails.

This is what I ride on the road. Most road bikers don't like the front suspension but I have to ride in the grass and gutters and it helps me a lot

The post about stationary bikes is on point. I have a good road bike but I only did that after riding on a stationary for a long time. Stationary biking is boring without proper immersion so you'll want to get out eventually

Thanks all. Does anyone know if there is something like a palaton* with that video interaction but not a million bucks. Heck I have a vr system I wonder if something can work with that

Sorry if I'm missing something obvious, but a gym membership is out of the question?

I am actually more of an advocate for an indoor bike because you can structure your workouts better. I say that ironically, as formerly being into cycling I couldn't stand indoors and how the resistance pattern and fit largely differed. Performance on-road was a more critical focus so I was more protective of not screwing that up.

But when it's in the context of starting on a blank slate, I would go towards indoor. You can exploit limits and not have to deal with uncontrollable grade changes, hazards, or reaching the point of cramping or collapsing on a moving bike. On a stationary bike, you just stay up and can abruptly stop as you please.

Get a commuter bike with a solid fork, V-Brakes, and trigger shifters.

If you're not doing tricks, suspension adds weight without giving a better ride (a sculpted saddle or seat cover will).

Thank you for the additional advice. I do have a gym membership, but I plan to cancel it soon. I've shifted my workouts to resistance bands and haven't regretted it. Plus, there have been reports of COVID cases among people at my gym, so I've been avoiding it.

Zwift is the Peloton replacement you might enjoy. You can buy any bike, throw a couple sensors on it and hook it up to your computer then ride in game.
