Can someone confirm or deny for those who have tried it? Just curious.

I watched Narnia back in December, and that scene where the White Witch gives Edmund turkish delight has always made me want to try it. But then I read some opinions online and see it's kind of...not great tasting?

They're little sugar gelatins. That's it. Imagine a firm gelatin and imagine a mild sugar flavor.

It's alright, though there are much better sweets. Also, is that guy's job to just stand there and pick up the things that she makes?

maybe they had a bad flavor? turkish delight isn't like one thing. the center gel stuff is pretty consistent across flavors, but i've had pomegranate and pistachio flavor which are both really, really good.
there's also a rolled up version, which is like the gel stuff with nuts inside, then its wrapped inside a nut roll.

Its neat, bought some a while back but couldnt get through a whole box. It makes a bit more sense when you remember the the kids were seeking shelter from the bombings during WWII, so sweets were probably a luxury they hadnt had in a bit.

turkish delight's taste is whatever you flavour it with. in the UK it tends to be rosewater flavoured, but there's lemon, walnut, etc. it's like saying "ice cream doesn't taste great", disregarding the idea of flavours.

the soft gelatinous texture might not be to someone's taste but texture appeals to different people.

Traditionally it's made with rose water which tastes the way rose perfume smells. So if you find the smell of roses not very appetizing, you probably wouldn't like the traditional ones. Some traditional ones are also made with bergamont oranges which is a hybrid of lemons and bitter oranges, so again, not to everyone's taste.

It's a good rule of thumb that all old timey desserts and sweets suck heck of a lot. They just don't compare to how good food tastes now. A delectable cookie is more delicious than any 200 year old sweet treat. Lindor chocolate is heaven compared to any dessert from the 50s.

it's all based on your taste. I can't eat lindor chocolate, it's waaaay to sweet for me almost to the point of tasting sour. Lindt 95% dark for me :)

I tried it once when I was in grade 7.

We had to read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe as a class assignment and one day the teacher brought some in for everyone to try. I don't even really remember what it tasted like but I remember not liking it.

I've had a few flavors, and they've all been way too sweet for me. The hype from the Narnia books definitely warped my expectations. But then again, it's enchanted by magic in the books. The real version was never gonna taste so delectable.

I love the rose and lemon flavours but would never try any other. I think if anyone doesnt like it, they probably tried another more traditional and authentic flavour than the ones below that I eat. And looking at pics online, if the others were my first experience Id probably find them disgusting too.

Yeah I think people are forgetting this is taking place during WW2.

Not only was candy different in the 1940s. Edmund probably hadn't had any for years.

That said, Turkish Delight is yuck
