So we have a technology that's being pushed on the literal promises of ending climate change and curing all diseases, but in reality it's just taking all our jobs and making it harder to discern what's real from what's fake.

I feel like I'm in "Don't Look Up" when I see people praise AI or downplay the many, many threats it poses to us.

That's not going to happen fast enough to cover people's bills. If it even becomes a thing in the next 20yrs.

You're missing a lot of steps, like the ones where the people who have the power to do that opt to instead hoard more wealth for themselves and do everything they can to keep it that way.

It'll take away some jobs and also create some new jobs. Fear of "taking your jobs" is rarely a good argument

The fact of the matter is we won't be able to predict well what AI will look like in 10 years. That's what makes it scary.

problem is that the groups people who are pushing for mass replacement of jobs by AI tend to be the same groups of people who fight tooth and nail against the mere thought or possible examination of UBI to say nothing of an implementation

You have your priorities painfully out of order here.

I think AI will hit a local maximum. There's a lot of hype and there are certainly concrete use cases already, but the utility is overstated due to hype.

I think hes right. AI is basically brute force probability at scale. With that, you can train it to do a lot of human tasks. But curing disease takes more than brute force.

I just think based on the past, despite some new technology taking away a job, we tend to create new jobs or adapt current jobs based on the new tech. And as ai increases, it will take those new jobs, and new jobs will be created based on that.

I think the most terrifying image for me regarding the future of AI is the combination of AI and robotics in manufacturing. A manufacturing plant run by AI and robots doesn't need any light systems nor any need for HVAC systems; just a completely dark cold factory running 24/7.

You're referring to an old adage on history, but man... AI produces so much and can do so without human input.

Ive only ever seen fun stuff automated

you automate coding now youre whole day is teams calls and debugging

we could have been making 150k to reset passwords but you had to automate everything

This. AI SHOULD least to a post-money human paradise of unlimited time and creativity at our disposal.

In reality, it'll just allow those at the top to become more rich and powerful, strip away the workforce, force the government to step in and either tax the companies so hard that the savings on using AI vs. humans becomes moot, all the while the government gets transformed into a massive welfare state and untold suffering and strife takes place.

Masterpug53 only said the order was wrong and I agree with that.

UBI has to come before automation or at least automated kill drones. It might be too late already as possibly automated kill drones are being used by Israel right now.
