1 - I'm at the start of the game still. Well, I just did a side mission where you help one of the angel units. Do you think it's better to put my karma[?] loyalty [?], whatever it's called. Do you think it's better to save up for a 4/4 army or should I get as many 3/3s right now as I should?

2 - When I do get a new army to place units in, how do I tell which units are already in one? Is there something on the screen that tells me?

3 - For the older Fire Emblem fans, in this Paladin a Jagen ?

4 - Is the preview life outcome before the fights 100% true? You know how it tells you if you'll kill the army or not? For example, I can't finish off a Thief because of their dodge. If I keep at it will I hit them eventually?

5 - Is there a way to pause the dialogue during cut scenes or at the least the option to make it so I have to press a button for it to continue to speak?

6 - The world is starting to get a bit big. Is there some sort of fast travel? I assume the MC is going to get a horse during Promotion, which should make the map walking a bit better.

7 - What other advice would you have to a new player?

Fast travel exists. Press minus to see the world map. The game doesn't outright tell you it exists but its mentions it on the menu.

Note: I'm new as well.. And I just discovered the fast travel like an hour ago..

#2 there's a little checkboard thing by their icon (sorta hard to see)

#4 yes the preview includes the RNG rolls. if you want to change it you need to do something that will modify the RNG, eg an assist attack

#5 I'm pretty sure the cutscenes weren't advancing automatically when I played so maybe there's a setting somewhere

  1. 3/3s are cheap as fuck and you can't get a 4/4 until rank C anyway.
  2. Sort by unit. Characters not in units will be pushed to the bottom
  3. Kinda. He's actually a legitimate character with some amazing late game stats.
  4. Previews are fixed unless something interrupts them like an assist from a field unit. No matter what you do, once units meet the outcome is already determined but you can kind of fudge it a little by using items to reroll the RNG.
  5. Yes I forget which one it is but while text boxes are open just push buttons on the right side of the controller until you hear a click. The double arrows icon will change and you'll have to push a button to proceed.
  6. #2 got it there's fast travel.
  7. Station guards everywhere ASAP.

You only really need like 4 teams at the beginning because for a little while the game adds an additional friendly unit on the field.

3. Def don't sleep on Josef. His stats are a bit bleh after a bit (and once he hits level 40 he suddenly goes crazy with his stats and becomes a normal unit) for damage, but as a tanky healer he will be super relevant on misc teams/dragging up low level characters.
7. Make sure to seriously look at all of the equipment in stores. The first couple (generally rather expensive) pieces of gear tend to be pretty overpowered if you know how to use them even from the beginning. For instance, the sword from the very first port down gives you a magic attack when equipped, which you can use to make a sword user that murders heavy units and flips the RPS system on its head.

For 3, the game curves EXP sharply, so it is pretty easy to have units who are behind on exp catch up, as long as they fight next to units strong enough to carry the squad as a whole. Because of this, there really isn't anything to lose by using Josef as much or as little as you want. He can trivialize a lot of the early game for you and let you do missions "out of order" a bit (e.g. you're supposed to get some anti-magic units before you do Auch's mission, and the game will try to warn you, but Joseph can just hard carry the mission with his crazy stats and ability to protect his squad from magic assists).

However, Josef is designed like a Jagen in the sense that he has horrible stats for his level. He is also specifically given an incredibly lopsided growth curve where he gets very, very poor stat gains for his first 20 or so level-ups, but absolutely stupid stat gains for his last few levels (think 3 or even 5 points per stat per level) so he suddenly ends up being appropriately statted for postgame (not better than everyone else, but on par), should you want to use the Paladin class at that point (which you may no longer have any interest in). He can also be used in the midgame for things that don't rely on stats as much, like throwing out Holy Shield and heals, but there are a lot of much more impressive supports you'll get that make this pretty lackluster.

So, did it come out on Switch first or something? Because when I went to buy it I was going to buy it on Steam, like I buy most of my games, but I didn't see it on there. So I thought it was a Switch exclusive, But then I heard about a PS5 version of it, but haven't went back to see on Steam.

I personally really like the combat because I really enjoyed Soul Nomad by NIS, the same people that do the Disgaea games. This is how combat worked in that game as well. You put units/troops into an Army and depending on their location on the 3x3 grid of said Army that would do different things.

Unicorn is like that, but it goes much further with the weakness and strengths. Really enjoy it

You control them a fair bit, you decide where they move and how they're organized and which skills they use in which situations. that's sort of like saying you don't control your units in fire emblem since once you tell them to fight you just watch the battle animation

You don't "control" units in Fire Emblem either other than picking how many squares they move. If you select "attack" it's not like you get to do anything but watch afterward.

No but I control what weapon they use what ability they use what unit they attack. Here you just send them into battle and they do a bunch of random healing/attacks/buffs/debffus etc on one of 7 other units on screen

You have it reversed. Here you get massive control with a Tactics system that lets you know every action + RNG known prior to the fight.

Explain

Passives have triggers. Active skills go down a list of tactics based on conditions (or gambits as how some games called them).

If you set up your active skills like this:
Skill A
Skill B

B will never activate because there no conditions.

If you had set it up like this:
Skill A (Only when user <50% HP)
Skill B

Then A activates when applicable, otherwise B will.

And this is explained in-game!

Explain

Every character has a preset amount of AP, PP, and equipment, combined with their level and class determine what skills they're allowed to use. Every character also gets 8 tactics slots that allow you to prioritize what skills get used under what conditions and against what targets.

And can't you customize them as well? Such as, only heal the lowest HP, or only heal when they have less than 20% of their HP and to attack the other times. Stuff like that

Correct. It's highly customizable and barring hit rates you should know how most everything plays out battle-wise before it happens should you want to play it out in your head. Nothing else is random.

Also, to add on to this: you can manipulate the pre-battle seed. Just go into the pre-battle set up option and move around, deactivate/activate, and change tactics, then move them back. Most of the time, you'll have a different result.

Pay attention to assists from other units, as well. They can drastically change the battle outcome. Sometimes you're actually better off denying the assist than accepting it.
