Only watched Maury as that show was always on in the mornings when I worked in the office awhile back. It was entertaining for what it was. I liked Springer as a teenager because it was wild, and raunchy, and that was the in thing during the late 90's like the WWF, and South Park. Only saw Wilkos only a few handful of times, Didn't particularly cared for it.

Yes that is what most of them were about.

In any case, it's a bit of a strange miracle Springer and Maury lasted as long as they did after the lot of other talk shows around their peak died off, especially after the Jenny Jones murder.

Nudity, yes. I still remember those uncensored VHS tapes they used to sell where the women would flash themselves on the show.

Showing my age here, but I remember when a guest on Geraldo threw a chair, and people were genuinely upset over this, as it was a big deal. Hell, Senate subcommittees may have met about it. It was an honest to goodness controversy.

It broke geraldos nose, he was not mad at geraldo right ? Iirc geraldo got into a fist fight with some reporter that was recorded. Don't know who was in the right in that case

What always got me were the shows where someone would be back for the 3rd or 4th time trying to find the father.

There were a couple of women that made at least 10 appearances testing at least 14 different men to see if they were if the father of their babies. One of those women had six kids.

The final time, she just gave up. No ultra-dramatic meltdowns, just a flat-out "I'm done."

I think this is one of the women I mentioned. Her name's Marisol. According to the Maury wiki she tested 17 different men for her 6 children. One of the men was dead. She first appeared in 2001 and last appeared in 2013.

And as Maury went on, only the bolded remained.

I'm surprised they didn't keep the out of control kids and teens segment. The boomers who watch these kinda shows eat that up as well.

There must be some sort of story there. Maybe social media plays a part or something but they still drag the kids out for those paternity tests as far as I know.

I remember his name. Duane West(though he went by D).

He would also appear on shows with the out of control teens.

All of that let me know it was scripted, as if any of those abusive guys did have severe anger issues, not one of them tried to lay hands against Duane West.

I know in one years-ago out-of-control kid thing where they did the boot camp bit with them (as per the usual), one small kid did try to take a swing at one of the drill instructors.
