Joke topic obviously, but cockroaches aren't survivors because of their outright durability. Drop a nuke anywhere near one and it will be incinerated along with everything else.

Though a similar question - why don't they make the whole plane out of the material used for the flight recorder?

This might be a joke, but I've seen this seriously asked by people a lot.

The reason those black boxes survive so well compared to an airplane isn't because they're made of some magically indestructible substance. It's because they're much smaller objects that don't have to be aerodynamic and don't have to be able to seat multiple people.

maybe not the whole plane but they can make a class above First Class, for the ultra elite who can afford $50k on a ticket, and they can have a man sized black box in case of emergency

Yes, that kind of a box will be intact after its 30 000 foot free fall comes to a sudden end.
That cannot be said for the human inside it, though.

Also it doesn't matter if the plane is indestructible if the the force generated by the impact splatters everyone. Humans simply aren't built for surviving that kind of force.
