Psyche-locks just let you spiritually force someone to accept an impromptu cross examination. Witnesses are already legally bound to respond to Wright's questioning in court so it's not necessary there. Since witness statements all are in response to one cross examination topic, the Magatama wouldn't help him narrow in on any one statement to press.

Psyche-Locks only show up when somebody is actively and deliberately keeping a secret; the fact that they appear during an official testimony or not would help Phoenix know if the witness is genuinely confused, doesn't know something, or is hiding a fact that they don't want revealed. The presence or absence of Psyche-Locks can help him figure out his angle of attack during a cross-examination since he'll have a better idea of the witness' state of mind and intentions, and when they appear can help him figure out exactly what they're lying about. ... From a gameplay perspective, they're not needed at all.
From a practical perspective, using the magatama doesn't do anything. In court his job is to pick apart the witness' testimony. If the witness is making a flawed assumption without lying, there wouldn't be any psyche-locks in the first place. Even if the witness is lying, having proof by way of psyche-locks doesn't really help, since you're already cross examining them trying to find anything to prolong the trial. --- Got questions about schoolwork?
