I thought they just had perfect casting with Xolo Mariduea, but unlike other great-casting-but-bad-movies, this movie is actually better than I or probably anyone was expecting.

Susan Sarandon as the villain? Heck yeah this entire movie's casting is on point. Love Jaime and the entire family really. The scarab design was on point.

It's really a shame that it came out when people were tired of super hero movies because it deserved to see success.

No oppai in blue beetle

There are a lot of things I liked about the movie, but you know what I really liked? Not just having Jaime Reyes Blue Beetle (whom I loved since seeing his arc in Young Justice) but also hearing about Ted Kord and seeing his inventions, so we got to see more than one iteration of the blue beetle. The idea of his family and jenny going to save him with her dad's inventions was neat.

Really hope it makes it into the new DCU or at least gets a sequel, because it was perfectly self-contained as a first movie and could either continue to be self-contained or be brought into any fold.

George Lopez ruined most of that movie for me.

I didn't regret my time watching it.

I like the part where he keeps telling his suit how wrong killing is. Then his Grandma mows down a group of people in front of him with a machine gun and he's all like "Grandma You're so cool!".

Did it fail because it was "woke"... or was it just under-marketed and the hero had a silly sounding name and superhero fatigue is setting in so they decided to apply "wokeness" to it after the fact because people that go around screaming that everything is "woke" don't actually care if it is... only if it can be used to generate clicks and anger.

It was good, but pretty standard for an origin movie. Honestly I would've liked it a lot more if I didn't feel like I had already seen it fifteen times before.

It was pretty fun, but I feel like they absolutely said "make it blue Deadpool" when designing the suit.

That was certainly... odd. Like they wanted their cake and eat it too.

Especially funny because then they did the whole oh bb is going to kill the bad guy out of rage and then suddenly the bb system is like no Jaime, killing is wrong. Like an attempt at a callback but really clunky.

Better movie than Shang Chi, and I'm Chinese.

It seems like the hate for DC is so bad that pepole are just avoiding anything under its banner as more are seeing DC as just" inferior Marvel knock offs" at this point.

It should have been the Iron Man for a new DCU

The point is that it's not a particularly unique design at all, it's doubtful it was based on Deadpool.

Most superheroes are just "X suit but Y color"

I enjoyed it, and I found it kinda funny that there were several plot points that felt lifted straight from some Marvel films (spoilers):

Bad guy sidekick's family killed by a company's bomb (Age of Ultron)
Main character has a conversation with his dad in the afterlife (Black Panther)

There might be more, but it's been a while since I saw it

I say it again, Blue Beetle should have been an animated movie. If you take that same movie and make it a Dreamworks animated movie, it's perfect.

There are some obvious parallels with Ant-Man 1, all of which I liked or didn't mind, especially since I enjoyed Ant-Man 1.

Gunn has confirmed Blue Beetle, with the same actor for Jaime Reyes, is one of 3 characters from the current DCU he's going to carry over with no recasting.

Also, yeah easily one of my top DCU movies that really stood out from the main franchise. It does suck that it aired when it aired due to superhero fatigue (more importantly I think DC did a great job ruining their reputation with bullshit based around the main franchise), it was super fun and everyone in it is great.

Suicide Squad 2, Shazam 1, Man of Steel, Aquaman 1, Wonder Woman. I liked The Flash as a movie to itself and the Snyder cut of Justice League was good. DC's just been the Dallas Cowboys for the last 10yrs. They're good, but when it counts, they s*** the bed.

It was mildly entertaining and easily forgettable

I thought it was kind of off-putting than Jamie had a whole thing about not wanting to kill the soldiers (understandable), but then in the climax when his family was piloting that giant beetle plane, they were gleefully killing soldiers themselves. It's like the movie was contradicting itself.

You don't understand that Jaime is not the rest of his family?

All it does is show that Jaime has an upstanding sense of morality and is likely why the scarab adapted with him when it failed with so many others; though the scarab was certainly not anti-killing until Jaime forced it to be, I think it just sensed something different in him from most others.

His family was also there to save Jaime from getting murdered. Like yeah, the gleeful part may have been over-the-top, however the granny being a revolutionary means she's definitely killed soldiers before so that at least explains her.

Thoughts on the Blue Beetle AI having their own personality, Khaji-Da? Felt like they were doing quips a little too quickly for what it was, maybe it's explained that they adapt to the Host's personality or something
