I second this but I would describe it as the "atmosphere" of the show being what makes it top the list for me, it is quite terrifying owing to the unknown of the Abyss and the fact that characters can just stumble into an unavoidable, and brutal, death at any moment. I was also worried the premise would be creepy, but I think the author is gay, so theres no goriness towards the little girl, just buff men.
