Tribolet says the staff were underpaid and overworked. She adds shed been working seven days a week for months because, as the manager, she was only allotted so many paid hours to give to her staff. She will now be taking a mental break while the other former staff members take new jobs they already had lined up.

While there were many issues working at the store, Tribolet says the food donation policy was the last straw, as she was disturbed by how many items were thrown out. She says Dollar General donates food to pantries, but there are very specific guidelines and only a portion of whats available actually helps other people.

There have been tears that have been shed over the fact that were throwing away coffee that is not expired, but its close, Tribolet said. Or youre throwing out a box of Lucky Charms that you know theres a whole bunch of kids that would love to eat those, but you cant donate them out because youre supposed to throw them away.

DG's response:

The spokesperson said Dollar General is committed to providing an environment where employees can grow their careers and where they feel valued and heard. "

Dollar Generals public relations team said that theyre following Feeding America donation guidelines.

At my old duplex the local DG would be closed sometimes during work hours. Can't blame them.

I don't think I've ever been in a DG where more than two employees were working at a time. I always felt bad for them.

When I worked there in 2012, it was always three people on the shift. Manager and two associates who would switch off between manning the cash register and walking around fixing shelves and unloading new stock.

We got paid $7.25 an hour and got like 25-30 hours a week. It sucked hard.
