That was kind of hilarious.

Reddit's arrogance in all but ignoring the mods needs has resulted in only harming our users. This sub went dark due to the terrible handling of Reddit's API pricing changes and policy decisions. /r/Save3rdPartyApps/. Under duress and for the benefit of our users, we are reopening the Subreddit despite this issue not being resolved.

The real cringe is that some people deleted their entire post history and replaced all their posts with some message against spez. So every once in a while you're scrolling through an old Reddit thread and you see these posts.

This was pretty much the funniest part. It was a nice reality check for internet mods who actually think they have power.

I was annoyed by it. I couldnt visit some of my favorite subs

Clearly they were passionate about their beliefs, but I don't think mass shutdowns were in their power to do.

I mean, yeah. I actively use reddit. But as a user, I disagreed with the protest.

Lol I just remember the Malcom in the middle subreddit being closed for the better part of a year because of these so called "protests" and rolling my eyes because it occurred right when I needed the sub for questions about Malcolm in the middle on streaming audio issues and sound being cut out/audio missing.

It was stupid and accomplished nothing.

Reddit mods are worse than the mods here, they won't ban you here for calling out trash devs or calling out transphobes.

The Scream Sub banned me for saying Emma Roberts is known transphobe and she's not a good person.

Speaking of reddit mods, are devs of a game allowed to be mods on the games official sub?

I thought it was kind of silly of the users to try to force the owners of the site to comply with their demands. It's more complicated than even I fully understand, but basically reddit wanted third party apps to pay money for using reddit's API.

I didn't care one way or the other, because the changes didn't affect me in the slightest. What did affect me was the closure and blackout of several subreddits I frequently visited.

So yes, I wanted reddit to either force the mods to reopen the subs or remove the mods who started and sustained the boycott. Because it was silly.

Never used third party apps and have no idea what mod tools were so desperately needed that it was worth the protest for. Whole thing kind of came and went for me. >_>

But the askHistorians sub participated and those guys seem largely on the level, so I'm disinclined to believe it was completely asinine. <_<

I feel like there were some legitimate grievances to be had, but the silliest part is that they thought it would actually work.

The message was right but end result was the same exact fucking thing we've seen before. Nobody had the balls to pack up and leave for another platform because reddit mods are entitled manchildren who thrive on control and don't want to abandon that.

Same as youtube content creators.

The Star Trek reddit tried so hard to funnel people to a competing web site and changed its title to reflect that. It only recently changed the title back because nobody wanted to go there and people still carried on like nothing happened.

Some places still have their mod- appointed sticky post trying to tell people to go somewhere else. It's funny to see those now.

Mostly depends on who's around to answer but there's some neat stuff there. Sometimes the question will die unanswered with 1000 upvotes. Sometimes you'll get someone who gives you a good answer to your question. Sometimes you'll be told "okay the premise of your question is entirely wrong to begin with, but here's a bunch of historical context about the thing you're asking about anyway".

Wait, are people actually on the side of evil aka Reddit? TF is wrong with them?
