They were so far ahead of what had been released in US we didn't know who half the cast was lol. One of em had Gogeta and we were like "ah, yes, angry Goku" lol I remember going with my brother to like Suncoast or FYE and buying the uncensored VHS' so we could see Frieza get chopped to bits and hear them say "damn" a few extra times. I remember how it got me and a whole generation of dudes into art/drawing basically. I would spend hours drawing these meticulous fight scenes. I even ended up in art school eventually, and it's all thanks to DB getting that started. Akira Toriyama had an immense impact on not only my childhood, but Americans getting introduced to Japanese culture / anime / manga as a whole. It's so wild. RIP. my neighbor had DBGT Final Bout and the translation thing on PS1 it had every character but we were only on Namek Saga so we hadnt even seen a Super Saiyan yet. fun story the kid lived a few houses down my parents didnt know him they thought I got kidnapped they called the police there was a search party.im inside playing the fuck out of this game using a cool looking swordsman called Trunks. My mother knocks on the door frantically i hear her voice and run to the door excitedly she hugs me deeply crying saying I thought I lost you then i say Mom can you buy me this DBGT video game? Its amazing all new characters i think theyll be on the show soon lol did not get the game and got a very very stern talking to about strangers lol. DBZ was such a huge part of my childhood. Countless hours spent printing pictures and tracing them to perfection. I don't remember if Toonami ever got to the Cell arc, but it was annoying having them loop back to Raditz after the end of Freiza. Still, I somehow never got tired of watching it all over again. This was basically the Trunks/Gohan story about getting wrecked by 17 and 18, and also included Trunks showing up to ezpk Frieza. I had only gotten to the end of the Frieza saga by this point, so I did not really get what was going on but it was so cool. I was disappointed that Trunks ended up being basically a side character in the arc. Then I ended up staying at a hotel in a city. They had a Japanese or Korean station on the TV, and I recognized Goku so I watched. It was on the Kid Buu fight. It looked so awesome but I had no idea who the pink dude was and it wasn't in English. <_< Eventually Cartoon Network caught up and I was able to watch the final two sagas. I thought it looked a little silly and over dramatic with the screaming and whatnot but I started watching out of curiosity here and there, saw the Saiyans arrive and most of the fight against the saiyans and the show won me over quick from there. I remember one of them had the instrumental to Sisqo's Thong Song lmao *What do you remember about DBZ, CE?* DBZ was a huge part of my childhood. Everyone always says how they remember the Rock the Dragon intro on Toonami. Not one time did I ever hear it on Toonami. The show would always start with the "Previously on DBZ part" and never do an intro. The first time I heard the Rock the Dragon intro was when I caught DBZ at like 10 or 11 PM randomly one night. I was fucking shocked at the intro and thought it was badass. I had no idea they even played DBZ late at night like that. It was the only time I ever heard the intro though.
