How many years are you shaving off your life?

2 years. I think with a quarter million, I could try multiple business startups and have plenty left over if I fail a time or two. Within a decade I think I could be a multi millionaire.

This is actually kinda tempting. My goal in life is making sure that my wife is financially comfortable when I go, so if I can get that much and invest it, then she can be more comfortable a lot sooner and I can breathe a bit easier.

I might take this bet once or twice.

Hard sac 4 to 8 years. If I die from it, well, everything I was gonna try to do would take more than 10 anyway so I'm not too miffed. And that much money right now would snowball into a easy life for the rest of my time here anyway.

I'd probably do a solid 10 years and fuck off with my money. I could live a long and happy time with 1.2mil. And I'm in good health so I figure I'll live a while anyway, but I don't want to be so old that I become decrepit so I'm good knocking 10 years off if it means I can live the next 30 in stress free comfort. I wouldn't stop working for a while though, but even so that means I don't have to care so much each day.

It would depend on when I was going to die and what the state of my health was. I mean if I knew I was going to live to 100, and have cancer and terrible health and bedridden and be a husk of my former self for the last 10 years of my life I'd rather take the money and die at 90 while still being reasonably healthy.

It's all about context. Sometimes dying earlier would actually be better.

How does it work exactly? Do you take a certain amount, get the cash and then the time is taken and if you took too much then oops you died? Or do you only get as much cash as time you actually have left?

Like, say you only have 6 months left and you took 2 years would you get the full 250k? Or would you just get 125k or less?

That depends how much knowledge I have about my end-of-life.

I had three grandparents hang on for years with severe dementia or other mental impairment. That's not how I want to live my end-of-days, so if I could consciously shave off years of severe cognitive impairment, that's a great deal. If it's shaving a year off of an unknown end-of-life (maybe I'll get run over by a bus 366 days from now, so taking the deal even once means I might suddenly die tomorrow) that's not worth it.

Same. It's pretty insane. Like I could kinda understand if there was an extra 0 at the end there and make it 1.25 million dollars. But for 125,000k? I don't know about that one

Not everyone is successful and living a good life. For some of us wed rather have a ton of money for just a few years then its over.

Id have to strike a delicate balance though. Age 36 out of a maximum of 60. I guess I could give up 5 years for 625k and not really lose anything.

I know you mean well here but I'm positive they rather live their lives with you still here with the money y'all currently have than the scenario where you're gone forever but they have 25 million dollars.

I'm sure they would but it's not often you'd have the chance to create generational wealth, the sacrifice is worth it. People have worked themselves to an early grave for FAR less.

Giving up my life to give my family money would objectively be one of the few good things my presence on this world would have done.

yeah ngl.... if i knew when i'd die i'd be far more likely to go big and press for more years. like if i live to 90 or something, i'd easily go for like 10 years worth of money.

so ill say 2-3 years for now. working on getting a lot healthier while i'm still young so i won't die of some health complication unless i get cancer or something. but $375k straight up is a life changing amount of money for me. I'd be able to pay all my bills off, repair my credit, put a down payment on a house, and live happily until I die. I'd take it a step further and get another $125k lol. Then I can start working on generational wealth and getting my mom taken care of
