Paul Heyman messed over a lot of people.

I dont want to sound like Ryback or Jim Cornette, but I have to be honest. As brilliant as Heyman was and as influential as ECW was on wrestling, he did a lot of shady things to the people who worked for him in ECW.

He lied to them about the financial state of ECW.
He issued checks that bounced to the talent.
He made them pay for things out of their own pockets and promised to reimburse them later.
He secured a deal with WWE for himself while ECW went bankrupt.
ECW and its hardcore matches shortened the careers and even the lives of some of the wrestlers.

No, Heyman is notoriously carny, even for the wrestling business. ECW wrestlers didn't even know he went to work at WWF/E until they saw him on commentary one night, while they themselves were struggling to keep the company afloat.

Apply that to any promotion... WWE started adopting hardcore style matches to stifle the growing competition from places like ECW during the attitude era.

WWE did dangerous spectacle before that, and you might say the ECW brand of dangerous stunt relied more on the talents of the performers than on pyrotechnics or mechanical setups with harnesses and long falls that will likely injure people from malfunction at some point.

If the Pod cast or to be believe no he was really messing over people in real life.

what does cornette think?

More than likely he loves it. But he once talked about him messing over people badly.

Ryback think it has something to with VKM sex case. So I was making sure I didn't sound like him when I was complaining about it. LOL

you can give him his just recognition for being a creative genius for the day, and one of the best promos and best managers of all time while admitting, yes, he was a dogshit businessman. dont know how much you can blame him for the roids and drugs tho. pretty much everyone was like that.

I saw someone point out wondering how they're gonna talk about Heyman's career without mentioning Brock, since they've been so closely tied for so long.

Heyman is one of the best talkers / managers to ever do it, so of course he deserves to be in there, and Cornette will say the same when he covers this on a podcast. Bank on it.

If that's your criteria for someone not being in a wrestling hall of fame.... I mean, I don't think wrestling is even a THING to the point of having a hall of fame.

I don't know which is funnier, Paul Herman or Herman Heyman.

Heyman is one of the most creative minds wrestling has ever seen.
He is responsible for a lot of things people consider cool and good nowadays and has been in the business forever.

As for "securing a deal for himself as ECW went bankrtupt" at that point the company was past the point of no return. Vince was funding ECW secretly for years as well. ECW was always on shaky ground and caught in the middle of the WCW/WWF war.

Was there anyone in ECW who wasn't a drug user?

I get that Heyman is no saint, but neither is alot of others in the Hall of Fame. He still paid his dues to become a legend in the business.
