He only changed his name throughout most of the 90s, then changed back a few years later after he had finally gotten away from Warner Bros. The reason he changed it was to distance himself from WB who he felt he was a slave to as they were hindering him musically/creatively. It also had a "born again" effect which helped him mentally. It was definitely an unorthodox move and certainly quite a statement but it wasn't done just for the sake of being different. Also he was a very underrated guitarist. Better live in general than on records IMO. He has by far the biggest music catalog I've ever seen. And then there's the unreleased stuff. Literally thousands of songs. Granted a lot of it is mid but I mean the dude was prolific af. Despite that, Ive watched many interviews that feature him because hes just an all around great personality and really humble when hes off the stage.
