he went back to being called Prince in 2000

LoveLikeJazz posted...
He only changed his name throughout most of the 90s, then changed back a few years later after he had finally gotten away from Warner Bros. The reason he changed it was to distance himself from WB who he felt he was a slave to as they were hindering him musically/creatively. It also had a "born again" effect which helped him mentally. It was definitely an unorthodox move and certainly quite a statement but it wasn't done just for the sake of being different.

Also he was a very underrated guitarist. Better live in general than on records IMO. He has by far the biggest music catalog I've ever seen. And then there's the unreleased stuff. Literally thousands of songs. Granted a lot of it is mid but I mean the dude was prolific af.

Thank you, I apologize for my question, I havent been keeping up with music for a long times if you cant tell.

Never really got the MJ and Prince feud. Felt like they filled completely different parts of the industry to me. I like then both almost equally, as in a lot. Both were musical geniuses in their own right.

Prince might be a top 10 greatest guitarist of all time tho.

Eh. I tend to listen to older music more often than not, but for some reason I just couldnt really get into Prince all that much. Despite that, Ive watched many interviews that feature him because hes just an all around great personality and really humble when hes off the stage. I like his ideas about music and what he wanted to stand for in the industry.

He is deserving of absolute respect even if Im not a huge fan. Maybe I just have to dig through some more obscure cuts or something.

@KanWan

I know you are not being a hater, but I have to say, this one of the most honest things I've seen about Prince.

I did get his songs in the 80's but he was never on my play list, as it were.
Having lived through that, I only now a few people who really listened to him, in a good way.
Sometimes, I think people act like they were huge fans after someone passes.

I do appreciate how unique he was, even for the 80's.
I can certainly goove to some of his stuff.
He was undoubtedly talented.

Favorite musician of all time.

Too many people don't listen to some of his later stuff. The dude released THIRTY NINE ALBUMS.

This is also one of the best live guitar solos of all time. Watch it and be amazed.

They talked about Prince in the Showtime Rick James documentary. He opened for Rick and would steal parts of his act like how he got the audience hyped, then Rick couldn't do it when he performed. Rick almost had to beat his ass. That knocked off a couple points for me but I guess most performers do sleazy shit working their way to the top.
Yeah there was a big time rivalry there.

I know this wasn't a response to me but so far I've gone through(in no order) For You, Sign o the Times, Purple Rain, 1999, The Gold Exprience, the original Diamonds and Pearls(not that new release that is super long) Around The World in a Day(its been a minute), I believe Welcome2America(the posthumous one), I think Love Symbol(its been a while so I can't remember if I made it all the way through), and The Rainbow Children(which I think is a pretty underrated one), I've also listened to portions of Batman, the Truth, a few others. Still got much more to listen to.

About Rainbow Children, personally I don't care for the really low voice parts, but the music and groove is amazing enough to be able to look past it (though I skip Deconstruction altogether). It's a really good album to just let play and vibe to. She Loves Me 4 Me and Everlasting Now are my two faves.
