MS13's have been heavily neutered with President Bukele crippling their central leadership in El Salvador to the point that it's actually safe to venture out in the streets now...

I'd be more worried about this new gang making waves in New York called Tren de Aragua. Supposedly they been linked to even the Venezuelan President himself.

Also the current cartel war in Mexico between Sinaloa and CJNG that have already spread to countries like Ecuador

I'd still be weary of them since apparently their weapon of choice is a machete. I'd rather be shot

I mean i only knew of them in prison. I don't really notice gang members in public too much.

I'm not in the parts of NJ where they're a bit more prevalent (Newark, Elizabeth) or in NYC so not really.

But, decades ago Richard Kuklinski was active in the area and he was a mob hitman, and an infamous one.

i was homeless at the time and one of them let me sleep in his basement.

As a officer. 4 years. Now I work a juvenile detention center.

Gotta say I loved the prison way more cause I was damn good at my job buuuuut this job is so fucking easy. All I do is walk around and scan things with a tablet peak in the cell to make sure they are alive. And do their laundry.

Yeah even in prison most of them where pretty chill. You just had some bad apples that really stood out.

i think gangs are an attempt at collectivism that can do good or bad depending on who they're made up of tbh.

basically coming out as trans, my parents cutting all support from me, not earning enough at the full time job i had. then when a family took me in, i got noided from all the trauma and dissociation and ran away to Baltimore for a year.

I've met a lot of connected people of varying degree over the years, most probably exaggerating their danger level

But I remember being reasonably close with a drug dealer(one with lots of customers, not just his buddies) until he started to scare me. I offended him a couple of times by complete accident and realised it was time to cut contact

Nah im in Atlanta theres no mafia here just GDs, Bloods and local gangs like 4PF, 4L and 5L. Not really a factor unless

1 you sell drugs
2 you wanna be down
3 you fucking one of their girls

im more worried about the crackheads with a gun. Thats more dangerous IMO a fiend outside all night coming down from a pill with a nine is basically Max Payne.

Yeah, we all worry about regular street crime, abuse of power by police white collar crime, terrorism, or hell even crimes committed by our own government.

But I think people underrate the danger of organized crime.

Sure, the mafia isn't nearly what it once was but make NO mistake about it......it's still going and though they mainly commit financial related crimes these days they still aren't above killing people and putting hits out on people and their families to tie up loose ends. There are probably corrupt people in government that are also on their payroll as well as cops and judges.

Let's not forget the terrible drug cartel wars that are going on in Mexico right now that the media isn't really talking about. And guess what? A lot of these cartels are operating in the US too.

I don't worry about any of that.

When I moved out to Nevada to live with my parents their apartment was in ms13 territory. Aside from occasionally looking in your vehicle to make sure you weren't bringing in rivals they were pretty chill. My parents would hang out with some of them.

One time, in Sweden, year 2020 there was a gang who did a driveby directed at another gang, i think at a gas station.
Missed every shot.
They did however hit and kill a 12-year old girl who was walking her dog.

Yeah, it becomes a serious issue when innocent people get caught in the crossfire. At that point its not as simple as just letting them eat each other.

When I went to basic training to be a CO the instructor point blank told us we qualified as a gang by thr states definition of a gang.

What is Co though? You might be right though many people think most cops do an alright job. Possibly American cops might be in avg one of the worst in industrialized countries

Correctional officer aka prison guard

In my state there is a check list with like 7 things on it. If a group checks off I think 3 of those boxes they are consided what's known as a security risk group aka a gang.

We checked off a lot outside the groups main purpose involved criminal activity

Fun facts jugglos qualify here. So they get treated like any other gang

Not worried about the Mafia. Like my job doesn't do work in certain areas because of certain construction trades in certain cities being Mafia controlled.

And from what I've read in books and stuff they generally don't shoot and kill non-affiliated people. If you get killed by the mob it's because you were involved with the mob generally.

Philly. I'm about an hour and 15 minutes outside of it. We will do work in the commuter towns outside of it like King of Prussia, but not any closer.

Theyre called corporations these days. And yes I do.

So that stuff is extremely worse in NYC than phila?what about that stuff is so bad?

A decent bit, but mostly just because my job as retail manager.
Just last year our district had: card fraud rings, shop lifting rings, and counterfeit money rings. Once the police got seriously involved and started setting up sorta-stings operations in stores is when we learned the scope of it. Made all the more annoying that these are now using kids making it even harder to really take action.

Don't know. Seemed random but he was also a correctional officer and COs info here used to be easily accessible because there is a news outlet that would post it online cause they hated us. (Like address salary all that good stuff) And some gangs do have kill a officer kinda thing for initiation.

But they said it was simply find a white guy to kill.
