I think a lot of writers avoid concepts like the borg because they are an inevitability. You can use them as a villain now and again, but the unspoken through line that you've inserted into your series is that eventually they will win. You're basically giving your universe a bad ending and are hoping people won't think about it.

That works great for something like Warhammer 40k, where people can speculate as to whether the entire rest of the universe has already been completely consumed by tyranids and the fight against them is really just delaying the inevitable, but it doesn't work nearly as well for something even mildly optimistic.

the borg is just the xenomorph to be honest but using tech to achieve the same goal as opposed to laying eggs and replicating dna
