A trilogy this grand, that is still talked about constantly 20 years after their release.
Will we ever see another that compares to this timeless trilogy of movies?

I dont know a single person who has watched them and only a handful that have read the books.

For LotR it seems like everybody has seen them and even people who dont like fantasy have read them.

Nope. Never. Studios rely heavily on CGI too much now.

i don't think it's constantly talked about.
and why would anyone focus solely on trilogies? it's all about cinematic universes now, and something new will come later.
don't get stuck in the past.

No, costs too much to make and the studios that can afford it like profit and cinematic universes too much.

You saw what happened to The Hobbit, that tells you everything you need to know.

The first Dune movie only came out last year and ppl were clamoring for more. So much so that it greenlit the sequel and a possible trilogy. The current LotR fanfare really only came about due to the pandemic. The LotR trilogy was loved, but pretty forgotten about until everyone was on lockdown and reddit was the only social life.

Maybe. But I do think there will be a remake eventually . Kids in 2124 will not care much about a century old movie. And the remake will probably be 9 movies. A full trilogy from each book. Supposedly the studio has said they regret not doing that

It seems like your argument is that not everybody was constantly praising LotR 20 years after they released but some people liked Dune so therefore its more of an achievement. Im sure thats not your argument, because thats really daft. Can you explain what you mean a bit more please?

Especially since theyll have bigger things on their mind like staying in the shade and fighting over water.

I'm not sure where you got lost, but I'll see what I can do.

My mentioning of Dunes short existence is in response to your statement "LotR everybody has seen them". I'm sure a year after its release many still hadn't seen Fellowship. Of course many ppl have seen LotR, as the movies have been around for 20yrs, like how everyone has seen Star Wars.

My noting Dunes success was just putting a feather in it's cap. What it did was an achievement. It didn't have anything to do with LotR.

The last part was explaining its current fanfare and bringing back some reality. Do I think Dune will be LotR? No. But if we're being honest, LotR isn't even LotR.

LotR was HUGE when it released. Like absolutely massive. Fellowship did 898.2 million in the box office in 2001.

Both LotR and Star Wars were huge cultural events at the time as well. As well as making a shedload of money and having loads of spin off material, Return of the King won 11 Oscars, something which only one ever film had ever done. Yes, some people might have seen it later but a huge amount saw it around release and it was being referenced in TV shows and movies.

Im sure you can see how posting that in this particular topic might come across as if you think it will be as big as LotR?

The problem is, as soon as we get some trilogy as great as Lotr, they will pump out some trashy sequels every year to milk it for money, so it won't be a great trilogy anymore.

Pretty much. Star Wars, The Dark Knight, LotR, Matrix, Aliens, Pirates, Terminator, Rocky, all of these were massive cultural phenomenons that changed the film industry. They all eventually had terrible cash grab sequels.

Dune is somewhat popular, but it's nowhere near the popularity of LotR. The reviews don't reflect that, and I didn't see Dune sweeping the awards shows like LotR.

Oscar-wise, Dune didn't quite live up to FotR, but I guarantee Dune Part 2 will best Two Tower's performance. Dune Messiah will likely NOT live up to RotK though.

If Villeneuve has the balls to go all the way to God Emperor, though, it'll be the greatest movie of all time.

Lol that would be crazy. And allow for Villeneuve to move to Rama.

As long as God Emperor gets made.

Agree on both counts.

BTW, I just saw an interview with Emma Stone and Yorgos, and it is amazing how normal and friendly he seems.
