I was playing it for the first time a few years ago and then got to the final dungeon. I was leveling up and then ran across this fucker
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/7/72df7ec9.pngHe sent me back 40 minutes and I turned the game off and then never got back to it. Should I finish it or just watch the ending and then jump into Rebirth

If not, save yourself some time and watch it so you can move on

Yes you should.

Remake is more enjoyable having played the og game.
Why?
That is a spoiler

Yeah, but at the same time it does go roughly along the same path major event wise. There's a few things though that should play a part in the 3rd act, like certain objects/people being where they're not supposed to be.

sad that it got Nomura'd such that a person new is just pointed to the original anyways because the new one is kinda not really a remake :|

I mean I guess it is nice for old fans to get new content in addition to old stuff but kinda defeats the point of remaking a game when the old version is just absolutely where you start without even debate of "nah you can just do the new one" because in this case you do that you will be even more lost than older fans

On the bright side, it totally leaves open the possibility of an actual remake down the line when this trilogy wraps up. In fact, id say its likely if you live long enough

FF7 on the PSX is a product of it's time. You had to be there, and play it when it was still new to the world. I will never forget that moment. Many will say the same with Mario 64.

If you have a PC, there are some incredible mods that have come out in the past year or so. Makes a huge difference. Im playing through the full voice acting mod currently, and its been great.

The ending of the OG FF7 is pretty brief and somewhat vague so I'm not sure you'll really miss much of anything by not following it through considering you did everything but the final dungeon.

Kind of hijacking the topic, but I don't really want to make a new one for a question that is pretty similar to this one.

Is it worth going through Crisis Core before doing Remake/Rebirth? Just went through the original FF7 and was planning on skipping CC, but since Zack showed up a few times in trailers for Rebirth I was wondering if it would be a mistake to do so.

I didn't play Crisis Core until last year, and I think playing it helps. The story seems structured in a way that the player has already played CC about as much as it does the original

Crisis Core not necessary at least as far as I know (haven't started rebirth yet)

but pretty positive this will remain true

Painful is your subjective opinion. Not "getting into it" with you. If you cannot play it then you cannot play it. Was just wondering if it was the graphics, the loadtime, how it plays, or whatever. But many people today play it and still love it like it just came out in 1997. But as mentioned depending on what part makes it painful it might have mods that can fix it if you are curious about that.
They also made a remaster version for PS4 back when Remake came out.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCo4dLu1A_k

As someone who has never played a FF game until last month, this game lives up to the hype. I knew nothing about it (except for THAT moment). I'm glad I played this before the remake or rebirth, and am currently working my way through Crisis Core Reunion, which is to say I'm hooked and will be quite busy over the rest of this year getting caught up.

I played the Original FF7 recently. I never had a Playstation as a Kid and always heard about how great and influential it was. After playing yeah I get it now and now it's one of my favorites.

ff7r is interesting because it isn't just the boring combat of the original and the exact same story beats. it really stretches the definition of "remake" but it's way more interesting than all these boring 1:1 remakes we've been getting

It didn't get Nomura'd because he straight up said he wanted a 1:1 remake and Kitase and Nojima fought him on it until he relented. So again, the two of them are responsible for everything you hate about Remake.

I just beat Crisis Core Reunion (the remake/remaster of CC).

It kind of presumes you played the OG (at least up through Nibelheim/Gongaga).

I found it fun and engaging. While not necessary, it isn't a waste of time. It didn't answer the question I wanted to know (how Cloud was infused with Zack's memories so hard it became a plot point of FF7) but if you want to spend more time in the FF7verse and get some more insight into Shinra and Sephiroth, its worth the dozen or so hours it'll take to do the story. There are a lot of missions to do but most are superfluous. There is a set of missions that pertains to a FF7 party character but still not necessary. Just look up the missions that give you more accessory and materia slots and that's all you really need to do.
