I was thinking about editing and putting in "short-term" before economy. Our failure to respond to the energy crisis is obviously terrible for everyone in the long-term economically and in pretty much any other social/political aspect you can imagine.

We really need to stop saying that climate change is bad for the planet. The planet will be just fine. We won't be.

As far as politicians go, they've been told fair decades how bad climate change could get and we haven't hit those extremes. We're unlikely to get to the worst case scenario during their lifetimes (unless they live to be 90-110) so they'll prioritize what's making them money since nothing appears to be going wrong yet.

Completely unrelated: it's totally normal to have 60-70 degree temperatures and thunderstorms in January and February in Wisconsin. Not out of the ordinary at all /s (I do have a family member who laughs at the idea of climate change since it's been "proven" that the temperature hasn't increased at all in over a decade. Just every year is an abnormal year until the polar vortex hits and he asks jokingly "where's that global warming when you need it?')

That's why I said the condition of the planet and not the health of the planet because I'm assuming we want to keep it in a state that modern society won't completely collapse due to our own actions.

Obviously older politicians are less personally invested in the issue, which makes it even more important for young people to let older people know how they'll have earned our collective resentment if they fail to recognize an issue that puts our generation and our generation's children in existential jeopardy. Politicians at the end of the day respond to their constituents. It's self-centered fuckhead boomers we need to fix (and no, not all boomers, but even most boomers and maybe even gen x could use a good bit of enlightenment on this issue).

Edit: Also I think that older generations should realize that civil unrest due to failure of the government responding is a VERY real possibility. Not a threat, just an acknowledgment.

If they care about their state's economy then they should start voting for leaders who will prioritize it. WV has the country's 5th highest poverty rate and 10th lowest nominal GDP.

It's not even good for their economy short term. The layoffs don't stop, or even slow, when the fossil fuel companies get regulation breaks. There is literally zero benefit to them, short or long term.

They're literally the only reason we have any regulations and laws at all. Manchin is intentionally shitty and has spent his career serving his own interests, however there has been good done through the occupation of politician.

They are not all Manchin.

Good points and it could well be the case. Dependency on non renewable resources tends to fuck the economy over time too when other potential industries dont receive proper investment and labor participants.
