I'm not trying to belittle, but a lot of you are chronically online, sitting, destroying your posture, and feeling moody and awful.

Exercise doesn't have to be crazy, complicated, and involve a gym.

We live in a time where exercise has been democratized. You don't even need to leave your house. You can easily use Youtube to find great cardio exercises, body weight exercises, and more.

You'll feel energized, accomplished, and feel better. Probably will sleep better too.

I say this after feeling like complete shit for the past couple days (relationship stuff, career change, etc.). I neglected exercise those past couple days and felt horrible.

Worked out earlier today and feel clear-headed now.

I've been exercising regularly for years and while I wouldn't suggest not doing that, it isn't really the silver bullet for depression that people make it out to be.
It can help a lot for sure.

Def not a replacement for meds, though.

Normally I do 1 hour cardio everyday in the gym, I use the elliptical machine for cardio.
True not exercising does cause problem to the body, especially when one is really stressed out.

I dont actually like exercising though. Its like a chore. When I go to the gym, its like doing dishes. I have no motivation to exercise at home.

And the best part: its free.

Even doing something like going outside and walking for 15-30 minutes a day can do wonders for both physical and mental health.

Or even walking indoors can be great if weather outside is not great.

I've been exercising daily since Jan 1st 2019. I do 10-15 min every day. I walk/jog on a treadmill and do pushups and crunches. I used to have 0 stamina before but now I am a lot stronger with lots of stamina now. I'm the only person I know that can do north of 100 pushups in a single set.

But I am still a total loser in every other aspect.

Yes!

Manga, as for not liking to exercise, I feel you. Sometimes I wake up and think to myself that I shouldnt exercise. But then I think of how I will feel (and yes, look) and suddenly exercise doesnt seem so bad.

Exercise is basically self-love. Youre giving something to yourself that is so needed.

I'm just mopey and sad that I couldn't exercise my problems away. I mean, I never really believed you could, but there's a lot of advice out there that comes pretty close to acting like you can. It definitely is a good place to start and a vital part to any eventual healthy routine.
100%.

Also, reminder that exercise doesnt have to mean hours every single day. You can do 1 hour of strength training 3 times a week, maybe throw in some cardio here and there, and be perfectly healthy.

I do Back on Monday, Legs on Wednesday, and Chest on Friday. Sometimes I include cardio on the weekends.

The idea that you need to spend hours in the gym everyday needs to go away. Not saying that youre saying that, but a lot of people still push that myth.

Sadly while exercise helps, it doesn't erase problem that people may have.

It doesn't erase whatever past a person has.

Memories can be a blessing and a curse.

CBT, my friend.

I think most people have things in their past that haunt them. Some have have it harder than others.

But you can challenge those thoughts. Definitely look into cognitive behavior therapy when you get the chance.

Sometimes its the smallest changes that come together and have the biggest impact.

For example, I used to be one of those types who would be on my phone checking social media, email, and more before bed

Had HORRIBLE sleep because of that. Now I unwind like and hour before bed without phone, laptop, or anything else thats crazy stimulating. I sleep so much better now, which affects every single aspect of my life.

The TC's very questionable way of trying to convey the message aside, it does help.

The real issue is an increasing matter of depression from just the simple state of what our world is in.

A lot of people just keep coming to terms of that it is happening too.

There are so many places people just don't want to interact anymore. Because they know we are "doomed."

I dont practice self-love and probably never will. If I were more unreasonable, self-love would be the kind of idea that would keep me from doing the bare minimum I do at the gym, but I know that being a bum at home doesnt help me from being out of breath and feeling embarrassed when I hustle up stairs.

While exercise isn't the cure-all for depression, the times that it IS the difference-maker can surprise people who try it, myself included, and you don't know for sure how you'll feel during and afterwards until you give it a shot.

Nah yoga doesn't work for me. Meditation doesn't work. ASMRs don't work. My brain goes 100 miles per hour every second of every day while I am conscious. I even have a hard time trying to sleep at night. I can sleep just fine during the day but I don't like sleeping during the day.

I also have had tinnitus for 25+ years so that could be another factor. I'm just a ball of anxiety 24/7.

Important to remember that time to exercise is a privilege

Ive been exercising 5 days a week but I have an elliptical and am able to flex my work time to squeeze in a 30-45 minute workout plus shower

would I want to take an hour out of my limited free time if that wasnt the case, or more if I had to go to a gym or something? Probably not

You can do a great workout in 5 minutes.

Buy 2 kettlebells and do as many of Dan John's ABCs as possible (2 cleans, one press, and 3 squats - that's one ABC).

Or hell, no equipment? 5 minutes of burpees with a push-up and a squat in each one.

Being chronically online and exercising are not mutually exclusive. In fact they go great together. I'll often shitpost here in between sets.

That said, exercise is fucking hard and I do not enjoy it. I only enjoy the results. Do you know what it's like to be in your 40s and pop your shirt off when no one asked and get all kinds of attention? Women that were once gorgeous pushing in to accidentally rest their boobs against your shoulders. It's a goddamn fantastic experience. I'm comparatively not even that jacked and I'll still get cat called at work if I wear a short sleeved shirt. That makes all of the hours in the gym worth it.

People often use depression as an excuse to downplay your problems. You arent naturally responding negatively to things, you just have wonky brain chemistry that these pills will address.

I fell for that and now in addicted to antidepressants, even though I doubt my problems (1. No job or eligibility for one, 2. Fat and stupid with no capacity to improve either) can be fixed with a pill.
