The local arcade back in the day had a Playchoice 10 machine with the 1st Goonies game on it. It also had a 5 minutes per token limit so playing it was kinda cost prohibitive. I could beat the first level though.

I wish he'd get out of the old 80's and early 90's era of retro games a little more often. Those games were before my time as I didn't start playing until the mid to late 90's. And he's done enough of these old games over the years that I know all the usual bad games tropes and cliches they all usually feature and I expect the Goonie games will feature.

Whenever I'll get around to watching this video, I expect to see some of the usual following that will occur that's common with old ass games; they're likely super short, very frustratingly hard, poor platforming sections with very hard jumping sections, bad hitbox detection, not enough health points and ways to replenish your health, your weapons suck, and finally cheap and annoying boss battles.

I don't watch streamers and don't know who any of them are and when people talk about youtubers here I don't know who 99% of them are but I'll always have a soft spot for AVGN and watch it. He is a bit younger than me but a number of his earlier videos like his TMNT and Top Gun videos really hit home with me and my experiences when I was playing them as a kid.

So he still draws a few smiles from me even though it is basically just from nostalgia. Honestly most of the time I like his videos more when he drops the nerd persona and just gives background info about the game development and little facts and talks normally about the game. I feel like that is when he is at his best.

But again, I'll always give his videos a watch when they come up.

Never actually played the Goonies NES game but it is one of my favorite movies ever. Love it.

He doesn't really have much experience with games after the snes and genesis generation. I think he's said that he mostly stopped playing new games after that generation ended. He is one of those people who remains obsessed their whole life with the stuff from their youth. And never really tries to get into new stuff

since when was AVGN past his prime. He is still great.

The memories of playing Goonies 2 and believing that it meant that a second movie was around the corner.

James and Mike Mondays played Goonies 2 5 or so years ago.

Was a hilarious episode. I love the game but everything he said is correct.

I never knew about the first game. I enjoyed the second, but it definitely had some flaws.

Goonies 2 was a fun game, hard, but good. I somehow managed to beat it without a guide.

The second game was pure shit for sure.

But the first game is one of my favorite "arcade" games ever. Played it at the arcade on Nintendo's Vs. cabinet.

Not only was the game fun as hell, but each time you completed it you'd move on to a harder version. Not only did the location of the various bonuses change, but the controller requirements to activate them would as well. It took me months to figure everything out and I loved every second of it.

Nobody at my arcade was better at The Goonies than me. Then again, only a handful of people played it and appreciated it for what it was. :D

This one wasn't half bad. Especially compared to most of his recent output.

He's bad he has no passion what about his fans etc

I bought this game as a kid. Luckily wherever I bought it allowed returns within a week or something, and I definitely returned it.

I dont think he has been. I think hes just tired of it a little bit. He also has kids now the past few years which take up lots of his time, he does other movies and other work so hes just tired and exhausted also Im sure, Im guessing he still mainly only does it for fans. Like if you notice he doesnt even review horrible games much anymore, more good games or just mid games.

but hes been doing this same character for close to 20 years now

This is made pretty lazily. He is basically just doing the vlogger talking in front of a camera single shot.

I still like current AVGN but it does seem like James doesn't really have the passion for it he used to. But like he started this when he was in his 20's and now he's in his 40's with kids so I get that his priorities are different than they were back then.
