Aside from the plot decisions and flop pricing the game just isn't good. >_>

Wow... all this news, Maybe Live Service games just aren't that popular after all...

To bad companies are still going to keep trying to push one out
Live service games are popular but they have two big problems.

First, they are designed to take up a lot of a player's time.
Second, while popular, they are still a acquired taste, just like any kind of video game.

So there is a pool of people who like Live Service games. And the concept has now been around long enough that the people who have bought in, are mostly already in so the pool isn't going to be massively growing. Those people have only so many hours of time in a day to play video games. This ultimately means that games are competing for finite pool of hours.

Okay that's fine. You are super confident in our project, the gameplay is refined, the progression seems fair, the rewards are rewarding. Testing has shown people prefer it to Fortnight. You think you can siphon that player base. Except then you don't because Fortnight players have spent a lot of time and money playing Fortnight. And they have accumulated a lot of stuff in Fortnight and even if your game is technically more fun than Fortnight, they just aren't willing to give up all that progess and use their limited hours on your game instead. So now despite some initial hype and some glowing reviews your player base never got to be sustainably large, which also keeps people from playing because servers are kinda dead. And you eventually become unsustainable and die.

Live service is just a really hard market to break into and it really favors the already established big players.

Hell I was disappointed in HL cause I was hoping it would be a little bit more like Bully with classes scheduled to take and the like. In the end I found it to be wholly underwhelming and generic aside from the setting (the castle and Hogsmeade were awesome!). But I assume most people that are hooked on HP just loved casting spells and exploring the world.

IMO it would have been great if they focused on just the school and the singular town of Hogsmeade and focused more on being in the school. Maybe the dungeons and caves you go into are just fast traveled to, would have given the game more focus and less open world generic bloat.

But I get what you mean, from the first reveal the feedback was NOT good and they should have taken note instead of doubling down. Just silly as hell.

Yeah make no mistake, HL is aggressively mediocre. There's a great video on youtube called "Why does Hogwarts Legacy hate Hogwarts" that shows all my problems I had with the game and why it would've been better off concentrating on its biggest strength, the wizarding school itself. I felt more like a mercenary than an actual student. So yeah I agree to get rid of the open world aspect all together and just stick to what works, the school and make it more like Bully. But my point was that single player games still sell like crazy, which is something I think business execs should be concentrating on just making as high quality games as possible instead of going for cheap predatory monetization that now many gamers are showing we have enough of.

The only thing good about GaaS is that if it's successful enough, it can count as supplemental income when your other games don't perform as well.

The only GaaS game I really liked is Warframe. That game gets so much content. And it's free to play. And it's NOT pay to win.

This is an inaccurate title.

It's perfectly achieving all of the expectations of anyone who isn't a knuckle-dragging dumbass in a boardroom somewhere.

You're correct, it looked like a dumpster fire from the jump. I should have said "WB Execs"

Eh, I don't know if I'd go that far. The people in charge and made the decisions wouldn't be the ones getting laid off.

It's amazing how these massive companies can fail to see something that literally 95% of their target audience saw coming for like a year+

The fact that a dude whose entire gimmick is that he throws boomerangs and a giant man shark both just shoot guns is what turns me off the game

Like the idea of this game is not inherently bad, but the fact that each character doesn't have their own unique moveset is just fucking laughable.
What!? They didn't even give each of them a unique movement?

Damn, even Avengers pulled that off.

When the leaks about the story were coming in I gave them a year

Now I think I give them maybe six months. It's all so frustrating. Good studios get stuck on the live service train and then find themselves at best crippled.
Didn't all the people who made Rocksteady a "good studio" already leave? Or am I getting it mixed up with some other studio?

Movement yes, they are different where Deadshot has a jetpack, Harley has a drone and grapple, King Shark is bootleg Ultimate Destruction/Prototype, and Boomerang uses some speedforce shit. Moveset no, with the exception of a more or less functionally identical AOE move, they all grab guns and shoot the enemy with bullets until they're dead.

I think they knew it was going to fail before it even came out. They had to. They probably were working on the game already when the Avengers game shut down in failure. And this was clearly a DC copy of that game. They probably lost all hope then but were too far into development and decided to continue forward and see how much losses they can avoid
