I'd honestly like to hear some situations where people can mistake AM and PM.
Please give actual examples.

Okay here's one that really happened irl. We were working on a project. The leader said something like this before weekend, "Let's have a short video conference at 9.30 tomorrow to confirm the details." 'Short' usually meant 10-15 minutes so we didn't mind.

The following day we (except the leader) hold a conference at 9.30AM. The reason was simple, 9.30AM is a working hour and 9.30PM is a resting hour. Since the leader didn't show up, we cancelled the conference since we already knew the details anyway.

We found out much later that the leader showed up to an empty room at 9.30PM. That went real bad and later on we had an argument like this:
Team: 9.30AM because 9.30PM=sleep.
Leader: 9.30PM because it's weekend.

Well, he could've said evening and that would've been the end of it.

False. Here in Korea, majority of my cafe meet ups have been in the evening. Only like thrice in my near two years, have I been to a cafe with someone else in the morning. Did more morning meets in the states, but evening meets weren't uncommon either.

People also meet up for late night coffee here. Its very popular.

Well, are you meeting for a concert or a day trip?
Meeting for the gym.
Is it a work day or the weekend?
I go to the gym with the bros same times every day.

umm just use 24hr clocks;)
Thing is, this conversation doesn't happen. If you're dealing with someone who legit can't figure out whether to show up when the sun is up or down, that conversation is worst case going to go

"Let's meet at 8."
"AM or PM?"
"AM."
"Ok."

And if they really do struggle with time that much, using 24 hours time will not spare you this. The conversation just looks like this instead:

"Let's meet at 20."
"What time is that?"
"8 PM."
"Ok."

But figuring that out depends on each party's perception about the current situation. Sometimes their perception differs because of the difference in their expectation and past experience about the current situation.

24hrs clock doesn't rely on perception. It conveys the morning/evening part perfectly everytime. 12hrs clock can do this too but people often leave out the AM/PM part for the sake of brevity. Let's go back to post #51 for real example.

Leader said, "Let's meet at 9.30 tomorrow." No AM/PM mentioned or asked because everyone thought it was clear.

Sometimes later
Team: "It's 9.30 AM because it's job meeting and 9.30 AM is working hour."
Leader: "It's 9.30 PM because it's weekend."

My team's reason is obvious so let me clarify my leader's. It's basically:
"C'mon people it's weekend. I'm not expecting you to wake up and go to job during weekend! I mean go, enjoy your weekend, get some rest, have a nice evening. I just asked for a little bit of your time before you go to bed."

My team and leader have different perception about that "9.30". As you can see both reasons hold merit so it's impossible to justify one reason over the other. That "9.30" legit could be interpreted both ways.

24hrs clock simply removes this ambiguity out of the equation.

Your team leader is a mentalist for thinking it's acceptable to arrange a meeting for 9:30pm on a Saturday night and if anyone on your team would have attended it if they'd known the time, they are too. What a freak.

Thats crazy, the more you know. Thats also additional context that would go towards deciding whether its 8pm or 8am. Its also easier to clarify 8pm vs saying meet at 20

It's only easier because it's what people are used to. If a 24 hour clock was standard that would be easier.

I do both though. My watch is set to a 24 hour model but I'll still say 8 instead of 20.

I got used to this because I had to write reports at work and they'd have to review camera footage based on my reports and it was easier for them to figure things out if I went by the 24 hour model cause people often forget to write am or pm.

Who has ever gotten mixed up trying to figure out what time 20:00 is? We don't do maths to figure it out, we just know it means 8:00PM, the same way that people know that it's 12:00 when the hands on a clock are all pointing upwards.

Just like with temperature, you'd adjust pretty quick if you moved somewhere where 24 hour time is common.
