So, the idea of a ghost as an autonomous, sentient being isnt something I find believable. However, I dont rule out the possibility that human experiences or powerful emotions can leave a kind of psychic imprint on a place/time, and that other minds can pick up on or perceive those imprints as a ghostly manifestation. That is, our minds can imagine scenes and sounds that do not exist and imagination cant be empirically tested or observed but nobody denies that it exists in some form or another. I saw them pretty much every night of my childhood and they weren't bugs or floaters. It also wasn't sleep paralysis because I often had to get up at night, and I'd watch these things go running like the Flash got up (in those early years, I was TERRIFIED to) to go to the bathroom. I will say I did experience sleep paralysis on one occasion and when I did, the "demon" that I saw was more human-like than the shadow figures, to the point I thought someone who broke into the house. That said, I do believe they're hallucinations related to sleep paralysis. But they were fucking terrifying, and with the help of AI I can show a close approximation of what I saw. I did see the infamous "hat man" and what I think of as a female version of that, which was a spindly witch form. The AI liked to give them eyes, but 98% of the time, there were no eyes. The rooms are also a lot brighter than they were when I saw them in person.
