Is this aimed at kids or millennials who were kids back in 1997?

Definitely aimed at adult nostalgia. I get the impression that kids won't GAF about the show. Especially with the X-Men having been deemphasized in mainstream media in recent years (thanks to the MCU).

Obviously it's playing into nostalgia. Otherwise they could have just created an entirely new X-Men show instead of reviving an old one. But they want it to be as accessible as possible for all audiences and appeal to today's kids too.

I am curious if the audience for the show is gonna be all-ages family friendly like the original or they'll allow it to have some adult edge because it's mostly 30something millennials who will be watching.

Honestly the only time I hear people say it aimed for kids. Is when people complain about Rouge's butt being deleted lol.

The (X-men) cartoon is trying to increase subscriptions for streaming by tugging on nostalgia. Same with Fiona and Cake over on Max.

Why Rogue butt gone then?

The same "concerned" parents that would have made a stink over Rogue's curves back in the 90's didn't have the viral avenues they do today to really pester the animation staff.

I don't see why it couldn't find a new audience while appealing to the older fans. Lots of stuff has lasting appeal.

Why Rogue butt gone then?

The real question is why Storm is allowed to be stacked, but not Rogue. If Storm wore her hair like she did in the 90s, instead of a Mohawk, I think she would be deflated too.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/c/cdf2b7cd.jpg

It's an annoying loophole that a character can still be sexually alluring as long as they're not attractive by conservative standards. If she's a dark purple elf with squiggly blue lines on her face, if she has a side buzz, if she's plus size, then she can be "the sexy one."

It's good to have characters like that. Variety is the spice of life, my standard is not the only standard, and people should be allowed to express themselves freely. But I think that avant garde beauty standards being the only acceptable beauty standards is worse than vilifying beauty and sex appeal outright.

I hate the political games that people play when it comes to beauty standards.

Of course, this might just be me spitefully saying that shouldn't be allowed to fap to a Mohawked waifu if I'm not allowed to fap to a long haired waifu / big haired waifu.

I guess I'm on the wrong side of masturbation history. <_<

The entire complaint is about nostalgia. It is people hating that they didn't add in sex appeal to Rogue from the original version. Certainly there are some people that don't bother to even look at the source of what's going on and thus they mistakenly think that something was actually changed besides the resolution, but it isn't feasible to discern the two camps on that side of the aisle.

I've already addressed that.

I know that she had it in the comics. I like the look for her as a character. It's unique and it has cultural roots. It's how African warriors wore their hair -- which is also why Mr. T wears his hair in a Mohawk.

It's just not what I would want presented as "the sexy one." (Emphasis: singular.) When I can compare a woman to Mr. T, she's not what I want to be treated as the sole character who's allowed to have a bust.

And the sexual ones complaining about Rogue.

Maybe Rogue has been given a more modest figure because they want White Queen to retain hers should she appear in this version. I know that she won't have a revealing outfit, but they might still illustrate her with her traditional figure.

She's not nearly as attractive as peak Rogue though. Not to me, anyway.

The 'adults who watched it as kids and want to see new epidodes' audience isn't large enough to be worth catering to by itself.

I just watched the first episode of the 90s series for the first time in decades.

Rogue and Storm were fighting a Sentinel in a shopping mall, and Rogue's arse looked pretty much the same as it does in that picture from the new cartoon.

I will never forgive them.

But it's a show that parents will make their kids watch and it will set up the kids for the X-Men's entry into the MCU

Good strategy. De-sexying the characters will make it more accessible too
