It's an online course that just started a week ago. So far we had to do two assignments: 1. Introduction to the class along with explaining the differences between primary and secondary sources. 2. Talk about how Frederick's speech was a warning of the "Lost Cause" narrative along with comparing WEB Dubois approach for direct action and T.Washington's approach for accomodation and which would have been better for Jim Crow.

I spent 7-8 hours reading through the sources, watching the lecture material and I was the first one to post. The next day there were 3 other people posting after me and the professor "liked" tag their posts except for mine. He did the same thing when I posted my introduction for the class as well. I'm starting to get the impression that he does not like me. Perhaps he thought my writing was peculiar and sounded off putting?

So emailed him this:

"I noticed there were "likes" given for the discussion posts. If I did not receive one from you - blagh blagh blagh - does that mean I'm not doing well in your class?"

I'm about to write a long email to the Dean about how his class is not inclusive. I just lost all motivation to try in this class.

Youre being overly sensitive. You dont know the reasons WHY he liked those other posts and didnt like you. And you havent even gotten grades yet. You dont have to like a professor nor the professor has to like you.

I am not making any of the above up. This is the true experience of a high school graduate who is now head of an electric coop and owns the world in which everyone lives in at the ripe age of 30.

Anyway sorry to hijack this topic but Booker T and Julius s Rosenwald owned the south with their method of raising schools for African American children. No it did not do nothing to end segregation but it created strong communities within black neighborhoods that still exist today because of the efforts put into raising up these schools. Plus you can see some of these schools still in existence today as some communities fought to preserve this heritage and save the old schools. Rosenwald schools are rich in local history of southern communities

I have until tuesday to drop the course. I would really like to hope that I'm just overthinking things, but when I read my professor's response to other students that he "liked" tag, they were good feedback that were validating. I just want to make sure that he's not going to grade my future papers with bias based the premise that he didn't give me any feedback whatsoever.

I am also a professor. Not only is that guy after you now, depending on the size of the school, most other professors know/are friends with each other. That guy is going to poison your reputation to all the other people there. Good luck ever getting fairly graded. Probably should just switch schools at this point to be safe.

Y'all are just making college professors sound like inherently terrible people. They should be able to not like a student on a personal level without trying to sabotage them professionally. I've had teachers like that when I was much younger and obnoxious.

Especially for such an innocuous email asking if them not getting likes for their post means their post was regarded poorly or not done well.

You can't use turtle laws on a professor.

He didn't like two of your posts so you're contemplating running away from his class and trying to get him in trouble for not liking two of your posts? Fucking wow dude... How sheltered has your life been?

If that professor didn't notice you before, he certainly does now. He has probably shown the email to the rest of the professors and they all had a good laugh about it. They all know who you are now. Good luck.
