Good question.

I would say it was either Super Mario 3, or Civilization 2 as soon as I could read.

The first game I remember counting the time and hitting over 100 hours was Pokemon Gold, but I'm sure I hit it with Blue or Yellow too (but I can't remember it for sure).

Probably super mario bros 3. I got that game for christmas the year it came out in north america and I did not know a single thing about it. No guides.

My brother and I went through that game the hard way with no warp whistle use since it took us a few weeks to even find out where they were all at. We actually left the NES on for a few nights just to keep the game going.

I played other lengthier NES games like the magic of scheherazade, dragon warrior and final fantasy 1, but super mario bros. 3 always felt like a whopper of a game in comparison.

It's funny because I can breeze through all 8 worlds in less than 2 hours now.

As a kid, playing through the entire game without warping seemed to take forever.
Especially since there's no saves or passwords.

Possibly Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
If not, then it was definitely Fallout 2.

There isn't a single game on my steam catalog I've put more than 100 hours into. I can't stand RPG's, open world, sandbox, crafting or loot grind games. If there's even a sniff of a timesink in it, I'm out of there screaming.
Damn, I've put more than 100 hours into Rome Total War Remastered just this year.

I'm sitting over 600 total lol

Lol yeah I'm pretty sure I can just fly through that game with putting barely any effort now, but man for 7 year old me I remember getting my ass kicked in a few of the world 3 stages and the ground level of world 5 being rough. *I also remember our minds being blown once we actually got up to the upper level in the clouds.....and then getting my ass kicked with a lot of those stages, lol*

Its weird because I remember having a easier time with stuff like NES contra 1 and castlevania 1 compared to later mario bros 3 levels as a kid.

I also remember not having that hard a time clearing super mario world for my first time (being able to save the game aside). I am actually proud of myself for figuring out all the red level secret exits and ghost house secret exits on my own. I remember playing that choco island 2 level over and over trying to find out why the pipes took you to different sections and then eventually piecing it together that the coins and whats left on the timer affected it. Big brained moment man.

Definitely Zelda 2.

I easily put thousands of hours into that as a kid. I'll eventually be (even more) feebleminded and deranged but still have muscle memory to still be really good at that game.

The first game I put 100+ hours into overall was probably Breath of Fire 2 on SNES.

The first game I ever put 100+ hours into a single playthrough was probably Dragon Warrior 7 on PS1.

Now that I think about it, I probably did the same with a lot of the beat'em ups me and the family played. The combatribes, double dragon 2, TMNT 2, 3, and turtles in time, river city ransom, mighty final fight, final fight 3, streets of rage 2, golden axe 1 and 2, brawl brothers, fighting force, dynamite cop, flash forward to the PS2 n' og xbox and I was still playing some on co-op with my dad or brother like mortal kombat shaolin monks, spikeout and urban reign.

That has always been one loved genre in my household.

Probably Chrono Trigger. It's pretty easy to beat it in 10 hours, maybe 15-20 on a fresh save if you take your time, but I played through it so many times as a kid. And I spent a lot of time just exploring and goofing off.

I remember reading that it is not, but I don't know what came before it.
