They're getting impatient because no one will sell them the drugs they use for lethal injections.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/south-carolina-executions-firing-squad-electric-chair-lethal-injection/

The state asked the Supreme Court to toss out a lower court ruling after a 2022 trial that the electric chair and the firing squad are cruel and unusual punishments.

I can't imagine wanting to shooting an unarmed man to death. I can't imagine asking someone else to do so, either.

The firing squad is actually one of the most humane execution methods, the electric chair not so much

in any case, abolish the death penalty

Firstly, let me say that the death penalty should be abolished. Full stop.

That being said, lethal injection's error rate is insanely high compared to other methods of capital punishment. Even if supplies were readily available, it should be done away with for that reason alone. Not to mention that the most common cocktail was invented with zero research and there's a good reason to believe that sedated convicts went through hell during their injections while having no way of letting others know that. Oh, and every medical institution is fiercely opposed to this method, so actual trained medical professionals and especially anesthesiologists cannot be involved, leaving the injections, sedations, and killings in the hands of poorly trained nobodies.

As for a potential successor, the chair isn't much better, and the firing squad puts too much pressure on the shooters and opens the door for inconsistent results.

Fuck, guillotine might be the most humane way to kill someone and even that might leave your brain alive for a bit.

Just abolish the damn thing entirely.

Also, if you have a free fifty minutes:

The firing squad is the method with by far the lowest rate of botching, it was only done away with because it's too loud and flashy and makes people feel bad. The lethal injection makes it easy to pretend this is a civilized medical procedure, which is of course the point.

I would rather go by firing squad. Every gun has a bullet, no blanks. If I am not so heinous a criminal that you have qualms about pulling the trigger, then crazy thought, maybe you shouldn't.

Imagine how much hatred an unarmed man incites.

Now apply to the hypothetical following:

So death penalty is getting harder to carry out, and with the gas mask one botching so bad recently, its likely for the best.

If it was me personally I'd want the opposite - as loud and splashy as possible. I'm thinking a hat composed of danger putty and everyone just stands well clear.

Or perhaps firing "squad" with the gun being an Abrams firing cannister.

Then that blood would be on the officials complicit in sending that innocent to their death.

Meanwhile, I've always said leave it up to the families of the slain to decide. Those who do school shootings would then have several chances at mercy (or condemnation).

"The prisoner is generally tied to a gun with the upper part of the small of his back resting against the muzzle. When the gun is fired, his head is seen to go straight up into the air some forty or fifty feet; the arms fly off right and left, high up in the air, and fall at, perhaps, a hundred yards distance; the legs drop to the ground beneath the muzzle of the gun; and the body is literally blown away altogether, not a vestige being seen"

And the state has let off people for crimes they did commit. It is what it is. The legal system doesn't always get things right. But the Lord always knows, and one day the sinners will all have to answer to him and they will have their day of reckoning.

But as far as the death penalty goes, I support it. People who take the lives of others shouldn't be given mercy. They didn't give any mercy to the people who they murdered, they can't bring their victims back, and the victims grieving family members aren't able to get them back. In return, they shouldn't be given mercy. They do not deserve it.

But I don't really see that the death penalty should be warranted for anything other than murder. If you are willing to take a life, then you should be risking your own.

you can show sympathy and mercy for some things, but would you give any mercy and sympathy to somebody who murders your children? or any of your loved ones? there was no mercy or sympathy given to them. they're not coming back from the grave. why should their murderers deserve sympathy and mercy? thou shalt not kill.

and why even reply to that part of my post when you won't even give an answer to that question? i mean shit you're not even the guy i was asking but just let me ask you instead. if somebody murders your children are you going to consult the bible before you decide whether they deserve mercy and your sympathy? answer me that.

it's not about what i want. it's about what's right. that's why the death penalty exists in most places. you don't get to take somebody elses life and then pretend to be the victim just to try to spare yourself from being held accountable for your unholy sin, and pretty much the worst felony that anybody could ever commit.

which of the commandments am i picking and choosing from? i'm pretty sure thou shalt not kill is somewhere up there. i mean you don't even have to go to church to be aware of that. and just what age should somebody have to be before they become aware that murdering somebody is wrong?

i'm sure you'd have a change of tune real quick on the death penalty if somebody ever murdered your daughters. you probably haven't had to go through anything like that before in your lifetime, and if you did i would only hope that you'd be the first one rushing through the courtroom to try to get your hands on the guy if you were any kind of a father to her, but i'm sure you'll have your opinion, so forgive me for having one that differs.

well if it got that far then there was obviously enough compelling evidence to convince an impartial jury of 12 people beyond any reasonable doubt that i did it. but if i was falsely accused of it then obviously i would appeal any decisions against me. i wouldn't be putting on the donald trump defense and trying to maintain that it ain't murder if she didn't scream loud enough. at least i know i won't be the one burning in hell for it.
