This was what my boss was in charge of before he got fired two months into my job during the busiest time of the year.

I sometimes wonder how much corporate money the work I do impacts. I don't mean my employer's, I mean in general. Most of our clients have billion dollar market caps.

That's nerve wracking

Having to resubmit it because a minor formatting quirk skewed all the data by some rows

It is kinda wild being directly responsible for that much money. If I let my intrusive thoughts win, I could shut down thousands of users from business-critical systems. Would easily cause millions to be lost across my clients depending on the outage duration.

Im 23 btw and this is a Fortune 500 company

Like I believe I am capable of doing this right because I am smart, but if I were a VP of Sales theres no way in history Id entrust this to a new 23 year old

See like I know what you mean but that would make way more sense if I was in fact being pretty scrutinized / micromanaged while nominally having ownership. Then leadership would be hedging their bets. But in terms of opportunity cost, it would be way better to make sure its been done right and get that money vs lose all that money but be able to say lol I let the new kid handle it.

One of my first jobs, all the buyers were basically 23 year olds fresh out of college. We had final say on millions of dollars worth of inventory investments. Fun stuff.

No seriously, we had a client get almost a heart attack because one of our staff accountant submitted a financial statement with a decimal in the wrong place.

They are hiring for his position ASAP. A lot of people also came together to take some of his responsibilities on an ad hoc basis. For this document, normally my boss wouldve done all the financial work, but instead all the sales team was in a call figuring it out while I piloted the Excel.

It wasnt a planned layoff, it it was they wouldve waited a literal 2 weeks to get this document done, because it relates to the majority of our revenue for the year and it being done poorly could have huge ramifications

I am so unmotivated for the rest of this week man. Ive been on my phone so damn much today even though I have deliverables to attend to. Part of the problem is it really does feel like I have zero oversight kinda because I dont, the VP I report to does not have time to check how quickly I return things to people after they ask for it >_< please I promise Ill be productive again come Monday

i get that. i had such high plans today to get through a few client's work and either put in for review or get more info. but i'm like, not nearly where i thought i'd get for the day.

I've submitted a few sheets now with $50M+ price tags on them

Once the numbers get that large it ceases to have much meaning
