It really makes you wonder what they're afraid of. When they say 'let the states decide' who are they actually talking about?

I hope it ends up on the ballot. And that Floridians decide they want abortion to be protected.

It's almost like they hate the will of the people despite appealing to it whenever they win.

Floridians have voted for things republican politicians hate a decent amount of times. Voted for trains, higher minimum wage, felons getting voting right back. Thered be a real worry that Floridians would vote for abortions.

Yes. They also saw plenty of their fellow red states put it to vote and the population vote to protect it.

The legislature also does everything it can to prevent what the voters want from being implemented.

89% of Florida could vote to keep abortion legal and their government would come up with some excuse for why the vote was rigged, and then make it the death penalty to even consider an abortion.

Taylor swift and abortion to turn Florida blue for 2024?

Its hilarious how bad these two things scare the GOP. A private citizen expressing an opinion and a basic human right.

It's the only way good legislation gets passed in this state. However, they raised the threshold to 60% and want to raise it further to prevent us from enacting stuff like this and recreational marijuana into law.

Republicans preach states rights until something like abortion is returned to the states, and then they refuse to let their constituents actually have a fucking say

states rights is just State government rights. Republican voters are okay having less freedoms than other states if it owns the libs

Remember when they did that with felon voting rights? And what happened after?

Even if abortion hits the ballot, expect the AG and DeSantis to do something vile and unconstitutional.

They did everything they could to interfere with it so that far less felons than expected got voting right back. And then some who thought they got it back got in legal trouble after they tried to vote.

Yup...and the best part is, you know how many people voted for it to be raised to 60%? like 58%. So that measure wouldn't even have passed if the law was in place lmao

Republican primary voters are very anti-abortion. This creates a selection effect where republican candidates support policies the general public does not.

Because it's ALWAYS been: "Let the states decide how to force our medically dangerous religious misogyny down everyone's throat regardless of whether or not the majority wants it."

It's a huge issue for religious and misogynist voters.

This is why Taylor Swift driving voting registration scares them, the GOP operate on voter apathy, frustration, and ignorance. Not good for them if more people vote.

But they're a shrinking demographic. Why not just go "eh screw you guys, abortion is cool now" and gain so much more support?

I guess I just don't understand the GOP's unwillingness to adapt. It would solve a lot of their issues.

Like, if they stopped being racist for a minute, they'd recognize the Latino community has very conservative values, for example.

They stop and they lose the primary to another republican. What works best for the general election is irrelevant if you cant get there in the first place.
