Anime (pronounced animay) is taken from animeshon, the Japanese approximation for the English word animation, which is pronounced animay-tion

It doesnt matter if a word makes sense or not. What matters is that it conveys meaning. If everyone is using a nonsensical word for some concept, then that word has value and the sensible word that is not used is worthless.
