Anime (pronounced animay) is taken from animeshon, the Japanese approximation for the English word animation, which is pronounced animay-tion

Since it's taken directly from the English word, it should be spelled anima in English. Anim if you want the pronunciation to be clear fammy fam

It's a foreign word, so if you're writing in that foreign language, you would just spell it as you would the word

Animeshon is animation, just approximated to Japanese

There's no reason to use animeshon in English

There's no reason to use anime in English either.

It's cartoons. That's the English word for it. If you want to half ass backport the Japanese loan word, it's anime.

It is correct to use the romaji spelling for Katakana words even when the word is derived from English. So, anime is right.

No it's not lol. You would just use the English spelling because the word is English to begin with

That's no reason to specify that the cartoons are Japanese. Especially when they're not even always Japanese. Lots of cartoons come from China or Korea that get called Anime.

Arbitrary social construct. People wanted a short term to describe Japanese cartoons so they went with "anime" even though that's technically redundant

Japanimation/Japanima would have been better

It's very often relevant. Anime has a significant following in the US and it's useful to quickly differentiate it as an interest.

It's technically incorrect to call anything but Japanese cartoons anime, but colloquially it can be understood that they come from different countries.

It doesnt matter if a word makes sense or not. What matters is that it conveys meaning. If everyone is using a nonsensical word for some concept, then that word has value and the sensible word that is not used is worthless.
