I'm gonna try to speak Wrestling

The Rock worked himself into a shoot because he used to be a heel but then he tried to be a face, which showed how much of a jabroni he was which was not dimes.

How'd I do? Did I accidentally insult your mother?

I'm still holding out some small hope that this couldn't be absolutely tone deaf as it appears and it's going to end in Rock being the heel of the board of directors whenever he's around.

Mostly because the alternative is ****ing stupid.

It's been compared to Wrestlemania 9's main event. It's the most infuriating thing WWE has done in years, which sucks, because they've gotten much better in the last couple of years.

And the clip of it on Youtube is now the most disliked video on WWE's channel.

Long story short, Cody Rhodes has been prepped as the new top good guy in WWE for a year or two. The Rock was also made a board member of WWE's parent company last week, a higher position than anyone on the creative team.

Cody won the Royal Rumble Saturday (meaning he got to main event Wrestlemania), and called out the champion Roman Reigns after the match. But last night on Smackdown, Cody basically came out and said "I won't become champion at Wrestlemania, but I spoke with someone who will", and The Rock came out, and Cody just left while The Rock and Reigns had a staredown.

Surely they must have known The Rock was coming back before the Royal Rumble. Why would they book it like this?

He had already made an appearance last Monday and made a reference to Roman, so everyone knew there would be a match with them at some point. It's just this decision, so far, is fucking stupid.

He also came onto ESPN and teased it as well. I'm shocked so many people are so shocked about Rock vs Roman at WM.

The Rock and his ego really has showed itself after the Black Adam fiasco and people are finally sick of it. I'm even more surprised John Cena still has a career despite being a total pussy for China

CM Punk got injured and Brock Lesnar has been indicated in the crimes of Vince McMahon so they aren't making it to Wrestlemania. So Rock used his new position on the board of TKO to put himself into the main event of Wrestlemania, justifying it as making sure Mania has the star power it needs or some shit. It's essentially the same kind of shit Hulk Hogan got up to in the later years of his career when he would use the creative control portion of his contract to put himself into the top spots despite being too old for it.

This of course assumes that there isn't still a swerve coming, we do have 2 months till Wrestlemania to fill.

Rock isn't in ring shape. Don't get me wrong, he's ripped, but the most important thing for wrestlers is the ability to go longer than 5 minutes without getting gassed and based on how The Rock has looked after his last few appearances, he's not there.

The plan was pretty clearly CM Punk vs. Rollins, Cody vs. Reigns.

However, Punk got injured and can't compete at Wrestlemania, and they appear to have panicked. Thus, they decided to go with Cody/Rollins, since that is the closest thing to the style of talent that the Punk/Rollins match represented, and then they rather blatantly moved up Rock/Reigns. We all knew Rock/Reigns was going to happen, but it seemed more likely to be a Summerslam thing. Punk getting hurt appears to have changed things.

EDIT: My guess is that Rock/Reigns wasn't meant to be for the title, but a "pride" kind of match. However, once Punk got hurt, they decided... Screw it. Have Rock/Reigns be for the title, where Reigns will inevitably win, and figure out what to do after. Meanwhile, still keep the "workrate" Rollins match by putting him against Cody.

Yeah, I feel like the plan was Cody to go over Reigns but have it be Rock that prevented Bloodline interference from saving Roman. Thus you get a Roman vs Rock match for "Head of the Table" at Summerslam.

I've heard this but with Rock's schedule you have to book his shit months in advance

Precisely, which is why it makes sense his match was likely originally meant to be Summerslam instead of Wrestlemania, and they panic booked and just happened to get him to agree to an earlier match, so they ran with it. He's pretty clearly not actually in shape for a Wrestlemania match. Had he said "No, I can't make Wrestlemania," who knows what they would have went with. Maybe Rollins/Gunther? I think the entire reason they did the whole Cody "This is the end of my story... But not at Wrestlemania" bit is because, last minute, they found out... Yes, Rock can work Wrestlemania. And maybe they already had him booked, to begin with, to be involved in the originally planned Cody/Reigns match, like Scazar suggested, and all they had to do was convince him to have his actual match earlier than expected.
