Probably because they live on an island and are not a part of our global civilization?

I had a cellphone since 2002, but I didn't have a smart phone until about 2021.

Some asshole hooks his horn 10 times about 9:30, right across the street from my house every weekday.

Either no cellphone, or the personality of genuine piece of fucking shit.

This doesn't answer the question, though. You can have a cellphone for emergencies and just not give anybody the number. That seems like it solves your problem almost completely. "I don't want to talk to people" doesn't seem like it's a reason to not have a cellphone. It just dictates how you use said cellphone.

I have had my current phone for almost two years and during that time I have not made or answered a single call on it.

That said, I do regularly speak to people via WhatsApp, Zalo and Facebook Messenger.

They have cellphones, just instead of chipsets they have rocks, and instead of data they have throwing rocks.

I don't worry about it. Is it possible? Of course. But I live in the Midwest in farmer country where almost every vehicle who passes you waves and if you are broke down on the highway or walking someone will stop always without fail.

I just don't think the possible need outweighs the times I actually need one. I turn 48 in like 2 months and have never needed a cell phone yet. Would it be slightly more convenient at times? Sure. But if I'm running errands or doing an activity I'm concentrating on that, not on the Internet or my phone. I would honestly leave it at home if I had it and treat it like a landline so it would defeat the purpose of having it.

As for an actual emergency where I need 911 I can use onstar in my vehicle. Even without a subscription they will answer and respond for a 911 call.

My cell phone bill is $18 a month. When I had landline it was quite a bit more than that. So it's economical.

My landline phone is bundled in with my Internet/Cable. I pay $20 a month. I prefer a landline over cellphone even if it was slightly more money.

Why, though? Like, is there an actual specific reason, that drives you to spend more money for a less functional phone?

Because I would treat a cellphone just like a landline and I doubt that cellphone would last 4+ decades like my landline has. I prefer talking on a larger phone that cups around my ear and has the speaker down in a proper position by my mouth than a cellphone. Cell phones are too small for my taste.

Also most people I know with cellphones pay more than I do with my landline. I don't care how many functions has if I never use them. I already don't use functions I'm provided with like call waiting, caller ID and some other stuff because the trimline phone I use from the 80's doesn't support caller ID and I don't care about call waiting.

What kind of deal do you have that your plan was only $18 a month? Mine was like $50 or $60 something until a family member had me close my plan to join their plan (now they pay $5-10 less for both of us than I did for just myself).

I can't fathom it these days unless you're on SSI or some other situation where you don't need to be gainfully employed.

The last few positions I've had required one to some extent (logging into a VPN or something timesheet related) and from what I've heard even fast food and retail jobs require them for scheduling.

I sometimes wonder what the point of having a cell phone is? My relatives and boyfriend text way more then they call. I often feel I may as well just get a tablet to watch YouTube n shit, and toss the phone.

Anywho, my maternal grandparents tossed their cells and went back to regular old telephones. That counts right?

Ive mentioned this in other topics but I dont have nor have ever owned a cell phone. Simply no need for one. I also havent had a desktop PC in about 12 years. I only have a tablet and outside gaming my only real internet usage is gamefaqs and checking some sports scores and news on espn.

Why the hell do I have you tagged as this? And why does it add so much context your post lmao
