It was announced earlier than RE2, though RE2 came out first. Feel like the excitement around and success of it and RE2 kinda kick-started all these remakes

People wanting a remake of FF7 before social media for some reason. Anyways I don't know maybe and then when they finally get it only half of the people are happy because it was too much of a remake and it took many liberties with the story. Also hey Smack, there I got your topic running with another post.

You can't make everyone happy, some folks who make stuff have to realize it. Just make it fun as hell and still be within the realm of the same vision as whatever it's remade from.

I haven't been getting any of these glowup remakes. Just not interested. RE2 remake was a very different experience and I enjoyed that as well.

I agree since it is a remake they should do something completely different and it's cool how they did expand on the Avalanche team more. But they also just add extraneous bullshit too. So I guess you just play along or sit in the corner and be grumpy. There has to be a middle ground. I think FFVII OG is a completely fine game after thinking it was certainly over-rated at times. I give the original a 7/10 *rim shot*

But yeah, maybe FF7R is the one that makes the recent surge of remakes.

I'm not playing it until the whole thing is out, but even so the fact that it fucks with things in the story makes it my favourite modern video game remake. I hate these "its the same game but the graphics don't suck anymore!" remakes.

They were remakes really, at least in the same vein as FF7R. Super Metroid at least has its own story even if it retreads a lot of the areas in the first game, but Castlevania 4 could be summed up as "Castlevania 1, but on better hardware". Also from that franchise would be Dracula X Chronicles.

Final Fantasy itself has had numerous remakes. FF1 and 2 got a massive 16 bit upgrade with additional content and 3 and 4 were straight up remade in 3D.

When I think of great video game remakes though, I think Resident Evil 1, which was a massive improvement on the original from only a generation prior.

I forgot about Lunar in that moment. That first game got remade a few times. It came out for the Sega CD and then the Saturn/Playstation we can put these together but then it got completely remade for the GBA and the PSP too. These were very different. Maybe there is a mobile/digital release somewhere too.

Eh, they're still good enough to play. A remake isn't needed, remastering it is a good decision.

The ones needed a remake is the ps1 games. IIRC they were planning for Destiny remake but then switched to the DS titles because they needed it more.

Also PSP's Tales of Phantasia X Narikiri Dungeon was a full remake from the GBC title.
