Rehaul the physics, but keep games pretty much 1:1 faithful in terms of level design. Arrange soundtracks but still with a modern chiptune style. For underrated I say Army Men Sarge's Heroes and sequel. Have modern controls and camera. Reorchestrate soundtrack but keep same score. Fix escort missions. Add checkpoints in levels. There's been several indie games in modern times influenced by Army Men series. Sarge's Heroes 1 & 2 were very charming. Fix the controls so that you don't accidentally throw the ball when you just want to dribble it, and make the Fortress of Fear boss something that isn't utterly infuriating, maybe fix the bees so that it isn't random luck whether you might just explode due to their stingers when near them... maybe update some textures, and you've got a perfect game 5/7 would play again.
