Get some kind of training ammo like snap caps (A-Zoom is what I use as does another poster it seems, good practice plastic rounds) if you want to practice loading and unloading, or clearing a misfire simulation.

You will get laughed at if you go for a desert eagle .50 cal, it will fuck your wrist up. There is a reason it is not used in combat by any militaries. Hollywood made it popular as it is a cool powerful gun but not at all practical nor a EDC.
is the recoil that bad lmao

I saw a bunch of foot ball college bros come into a range, rent the deagle, get 2 full boxes of 20 rounds, they finished 1 box and returned the 2nd box not using a single round of it.

Maybe it was their first time shooting, maybe they wanted to play bad ass, but they could not finish all 40 rounds of 50 AE between 4 people.

9 mm, 45 ACP, and 357 magnum all have 50 rounds per box, most people go through 2 or 3 boxes in one range trip.

MP Shield is great, I have a .380. I actually prefer it over a 9mm, it's just lighter and easier to handle for me. I went shooting with some friends who brought a whole bunch of guns, and mine ended up being pretty popular just because it was easy to use.

The biggest downside is that it isn't very good at long range, but I bought it for home defense so that part is fine.

Yep. you usually want to use large caliber rounds like that in a revolver, and as like...bear defense or something. DEs are shitty even for that because they're notoriously jam-prone in most calibers. It's an incredibly impractical and pointless pistol that fills no niche.

I'm considering a Ruger LCP or LCP Max.

I have small hands, so a .38 is probably best for me

I don't know, but I was about to look for that haha. If a man has a big truck and a big gun, you know. I'm not talking work truck, farm truck, or self defense or hunting guns. I'm talking sparkly F-350 with a lift that makes it useless for hauling or pulling, and something that could kill an elephant or automatic that would just mess up your kill. I'm just ready for us to start seeing more DeSantis boots.

Yes. I fired one at a range once. It's just a fucking silly gun and could easily break your wrist if you aren't holding it correctly.

My first handgun was a Smith and Wesson Model 66 .357. It's a good beginner's gun. The frame and barrel length are enough to make the recoil bearable plus if you want to go to the range it also chambers .38 special which is way cheaper.

Seriously though that with something without much recoil just to get you comfortable. Make sure to be with people who take guns seriously if you never used one before. Pretend it is always loaded. If you aren't at a shooting range and in the woods, makes sure there is no way your bullet goes past its mark like over a hill. And practice a lot. Just be careful and learn as much as you can.

Side note, I'm pro gun, but I really wish there were classes people had to take. I took hunter's safety as a child and my family were very careful and strict with rules when using guns. I've seen how stupid some people can be and it bothers me so much. Of course "bad people" won't take classes and have guns, but at least more people are better educated on safety.

Lotta revolver talk in here. While theyre cool to have at some point, its a strange choice for a first gun at this point in time.

There are a lot of things to consider when choosing your first gun, and the best advice that was given here is to go to a range and rent a few different pistols and calibers and see how they feel to you.

Additionally, consider if this is for concealed carry or if youre going to open carry. I love full size handguns because theyre smooth to shoot and usually very accurate, but some people dont have the frame to comfortably conceal a full size pistol.

Fortunately, the CCW market is more competitive than ever. The Sig 365 and Springfield Hellcat Pro give you smaller frame pistols, optic ready, that you can more easily conceal. And you dont need to sacrifice capacity.

All I really got is taurus and ruger. Ones technically a rossi but taurus bought em out iirc. Outside that I got one cheaply made German gun that was popular in spaghetti westerns cause it looks like a colt single action but was far cheaper. It's a .22 but I'm dead accurate with it.

i dont think it would be a fantasy, that would be terrifying to have happen to me and is exactly the kind of situation i was trying to get a gun for, so i wouldn't be defenseless.

it was probably just my desire to learn how to work a gun melding with my ability to learn in stressful situations and my mind combined that into one. I wouldn't mind at all if I never had to use the gun, in fact i'm hoping for it but with gun laws becoming looser in my state its a sad reality lol

I think not all dreams have to have a meaning, sometimes it just happens. Most of my dreams are incredibly random and don't relate to me at all but it's peoples natural tendency to try to look for a meaning in everything

Yeah the concept is simple. The execution isn't unless you're just a natural.

Lining up the sights to aim and doing it quickly never came naturally to me. That said IF I ever used a gun it would be close range cause I'm not that confident in longer ranges with a hand gun. Close range unless you just suck you don't even need to use the sights really.

In fact that's part of my yearly training/qualification for work. Close range hip fire

If your state has it go get a conceal carry. Here anyways you have to qualify for one. So that way you'll know if you are competent enough. Get some practice rounds in at the range first. See if you can talk with the range master and have them give advice and tips.

There is all sorts of things that factor in like how you hold the gun. One way a lot of people tend to do cause their hand to slightly turn to the side when they pull the trigger which throws aim off. Need to figure out what your dominant eye is too.

my problem is i'm slow to load the mag, and struggle with correctly positioning my hands, which as i outlined earlier is probably due to me being lefthanded. It'll just naturally take me longer to do stuff unless I submit and just pretend to be a righty >_>
