Hockey is a very physical sport.

The blame is on the limitations of the gear required, not on the players taking part in a physical sport. Prison is not for instances like these.

Yeah. I love sports, but they are all mostly idiots. If it means not having to wear protection because it "isn't manly", you can bet your ass they'd think that.

Because you have to prove neglect or some other kind of fault on someone's part for an accident to be a crime?

Hockey is a liability sport. That's like saying boxers should be thrown in jail if their punch accidentally kills someone. The kick has never been something you would be jailed for. The blame lies solely on the culture of hockey and its handling of protective gear.

...if a boxer dies after the match the person who punched him out doesn't get charged unless he was hitting him after the ref called the match

What justice would be served by charging someone for an accident that was not in their control to prevent?

Like, the sole reason to do that is because you've decided that, no matter what, someone has to take the blame. For something for which no one is at fault. How is that justice?

If you got in a car accident and rolled over to the other lane and killed some one, would you think you should be charged?

Car accidents actually are one area where we (the US) probably should be charging more people. You can run over a kid and barely be kept for questioning.

But that's unrelated to this hockey incident, which criminal charges would not in any way improve.

I'd trust the police to figure this one out.

That said, since the charges against Alec Baldwin got dropped, I don't see charges here sticking either unless there's some extraordinary evidence it was done with malice.

Its hard to believe it was intentional(if you want to hurt someone there is likely better ways), but I openly admit Im not into hockey so maybe there is something there?

Should Tee Higgins go to jail for almost killing Damar Hamlin? Because freak football accident or not, his hit stopped Hamlin's heart?

I don't think holding athletes criminally liable for accidents is going to help anything.

Should someone have gone to jail in Dale Earnhardt's death?

Ive watched and played hockey all my life, whether it was intentional or not I cant say. The guy does lead the league in penalties so he is definitely a hot head. I can say is when you fall you bring youre legs down to protect others so this shit doesnt happen.

it becomes second nature to do this the same way people who crash bikes, skate boards and shit know to tuck and roll.

regardless it isnt my job to charge or judge this man which I am thankful for because this is a rough one.

I dont think he intentionally murdered johnson but that is what involuntarily manslaughter charges are for. The public is going to make this a rough one regardless of the outcome.

He may have been reckless, but no player would ever ever ever in their life risk their legs for a check like this. Momentum carried his legs up like that based on how he was hit.

Like, even the most heartless NHL players (like Matt Cooke for example) are very safe about their own body when being dangerous. Yeah he cut the guys throat, terrible tragic thing to happen, but there's a much higher chance of the guy taking out his own knees for something like this.
