Whenever a case of the Kia Boys happens and someone's car is totaled, people be like, "don't they have insurance?"
I suspect the giant spike in grand theft auto is behind the insurance premium spikes. Because guess what...insurance isn't magic.

My insurance premium went up by 20% just for using the roadside assistance (which I pay extra for, mind you) once for a jump start.
Mind you, that's the only "claim" I had made in years, and I doubt it's solely or even primarily responsible for the spike (see above).

Shop for new car insurance every year. They count on the fact that we're lazy and won't go through the hassle.

Your insurance can go up based on the risk factor of the area you drive in. Yes they can raise your rates based on accidents other people have.

If you ask me it's just another excuse to charge you more money for nothing.

this. could blame for whomever is driving crappy that they label a "certain car" high risk and such liable for the higher premium.

when they pull that shit... time to shop around. more than 1 insurance provider.
make sure to reach what they offer for the costs to get something of equal or greater value.

I pay around 700 per year (UK).

For a car in a high-ish insurance group. That's for fully comprehensive and protected no claims bonus.
