It doesn't make sense. They were first claiming that Hamas misfired a missile into their own hospital, next they claim there's like a giant military base below the hospital. Unlikely they happen to just bomb their own base, so what's the truth?

By the international laws of war, it's considered perfidy and it's considered a war crime to do it. It also means that, again, by the international laws of war, that site can be targeted and destroyed. (Providing it's true, of course. And if it's not, then the attacker will have committed a war crime.)

That's why it's so important for countries to ensure they don't use protected sites/symbols for/on their combat forces.

You can disagree with that, however, it doesn't change the fact that if Israel attacks the HAMAS base, it's not a war crime. The war crime is HAMAS using it as a base.
