This is truly the post-Snyder era in which there's a ridiculous deal involving Washington and they aren't the offending party
I don't hate the deal, especially in a vacuum and assuming an extension will be a part of it. This deal wasn't done for this year, he'll get a 4 year extension or something similar. But doing this and still trading away Jaylon? That would be real weird.

Literally everyone in my group chat likes the trade for Sweat. Only way this is bad is if they don't extend him and I'm sure they talked to his agent before hand to get something done and they absolutely have the cap space to give him whatever he wants. Not getting the reactions here lol
Wilbon will absolutely destroy this trade and demand immediate firings and I am definitely watching a PTI repeat later today.

This is instantly fireable as far as I see it, but we are talking about Bears fans who haven't known what good football is in a very long time.

Yeah, Sweat is a good player. The Bears being buyers at the trade deadline is wild though because they need all the assets they can get.

I guess they can justify it by saying Sweat is better than anyone they'd draft with what they traded away.

Yeah, any DE in this year's draft around that pick will not be better than Sweat. And with two likely top 10 picks, have to imagine Poles trades down with one of them and recoups a second at the very least. So there's that.

Yeah this is true, and there are rumours that other teams have heard what Johnson wants contract-wise and balked at it, so that may be helpful for negotiations with Chicago too.

Good offensive football, sure. Defensive? Not in the past few years, but they've had some pretty damn good defenses in the not so distant past, so won't quite agree there. This defense is last in sacks (5 away from 31st place I think), so this is definitely a needed move. Again, with the assumption that an extension isn't far off.

So many spreads feel wrong.

Vegas -2.5 at home against the Giants? How? Green Bay favored by the full home 3 points over the Rams?

The Chargers only bring 3 points favorites over the Jets? This is an offense that should be able to break the Jets defense by late on the third quarter at worst.

Because the bears need picks way more than trading those picks for expiring deals. Even if they extend him, they are still a long way from contention, he will be over the hill by the time they are any good. He's doing nothing for them in the short or long run.

I don't know if Vegas is expecting Tyrod to play and Stafford not to play. That's the only explanation I can think of there.

Team like the Bears need talent period. Sweat is talented. Still have two Top 5 picks this year, Carolina's 2nd next year, get a new coaching staff in there and hit on some of those picks and the possibility of a quicker turnaround before Sweat hits 30 is not out of the realm possibility.

"Hit on some of those picks" funny joke! You're more hopeful than me given their track record esp at qb

In all seriousness, I get where you're coming from but it just doesn't seem likely, dare I say even possible. You're hoping both of the top picks they have this year will be almost immediate studs AND they still need more help defensively, seeing as they rank in the bottom 5 in points allowed. I just don't see that kind of quick enough rebound for sweat to matter. I see it as he'll give them a couple good years where they marginally improve, and then he's gone

I mean Jags went from first overall pick in the draft two years in a row to winning a playoff game. Of course landing a HC of Doug Pedersons caliber and having a QB like Trevor Lawrence most likely isnt right around the corner for the Bears

That's just it. Picks are a total crapshoot, moreso the farther down you go. Second rounder, especially since it'll be top 40, is definitely a higher price to pay, but Sweat is a proven talent rather than a potential one. So there's that too.

Sure but the more you acquire, the more darts you have to throw at the board. Even a team like hte bears *can* get some right if they try enough times. He is a proven talent, but I just don't ever like these types of trades unless they put you in contention. Going from bad to mediocre or even average just doesn't do it for me. It's a move a team pulls when they just want to be relevant.

This is true, and the PTSD is still there from the Claypool trade for sure. This comes without the character issues and lack of production that season for Claypool though, so there's that lol.

This is also true, as evidenced by Poles' two drafts where he constantly trades down and acquires more picks (not to mention the DJ Moore trade). Again, I think he trades down from his lower of two first round picks and acquires a few more that way as well.

Fair enough.

I know people have said "why not wait until FA to get Sweat?" I doubt he would've gotten there. If the Bears didn't get him, someone would have. Happened last year with a few players a lotta Bears fans wanted (Payne, Elgton Jenkins in GB, etc), so there's that. High second rounder is a high price, absolutely, so I'm interested to see what Poles does with Jaylon and with his two first round picks.

The Giants are gonna be stuck with Daniel Jones for awhile, lol. I'm fine with the Giants potentially taking another offensive lineman. I think many people realize that the Evan Neal experiment may be coming to an end but I don't think he'll be that good at guard.

I've seen a few mock drafts have the Giants taking Keon Coleman. That seems kinda high for another wide receiver Daniel Jones can't get the ball to.
