I'm not even looking forward to ES6 anymore, I'm fully aware it would just be a slightly prettier Skyrim with all the same shortcomings.

Have you considered buying yet another copy of re-released Skyrim, installing 200 mods to make an actual game out of it, and then playing Oblivion in it?

I kind of think Starfield already looks better than modded Skyrim. The best mod to make Skyrim look more modern is ENB, but modern games can already do high quality shaders like this. Skyrim's vanilla lighting system is ugly and no ENB can fix it.

This. I'm also not looking forward to GTA 6 for mostly same reason.

Even if it isn't just GTA 5, it's obvious where Rockstar's priorities lie with GTA Online and what they think makes a good game with RDR2.

I honestly hate to say it, but I feel like that was the most predictable outcome this year.

It's what happens when you get complacent and milk the golden goose for all it's worth and then some. Ever since Skyrim, the only notable release they've had of a positive note is Fallout 4. And even reception to that wasn't great.

I think Besthesda's haphazard game engines and cookie cutter design philosophy is finally catching up to them.

Man, Skyrim was overrated.
It was baby's first Elder Scrolls game, which for the time, the series truly was something else. I preferred Oblivion myself, and while I dislike quite a bit about Skyrim, I think the reception it got was pretty fair for people new to the series.
