the first part, from what I played, is good, but there's also obvious padding.

but when everything is done, it'll overall be really good with the exception of the padding.

As hyped as I am for Rebirth right now...it's tough to say until the whole thing is done.

I think it'll be great, but it's already too different to really compare. Like the Evangelion rebuilds, we just have two different good things going now

Since I never played the original, I was keen for the remake to be properly turn-based. But I guess what they did with it is still popular, just not a style of gameplay which appeals to me.

I already like 7 remakes' actual battle system way more than the original, but I'm still waiting to see where they are going with the story.

I do actually like the expanded midgar in remake compared to the same section in the og (alongside aerith, barret, and so far with the bit of interaction we got red 13 being way more interesting characters compared to their OG selves), so this whole project is more than likely going to be my preferred version of final fantasy 7.

I am really looking forward to barret's major character arc at coral prison in the remake.

They made it kids friendly. Just on the darker theme alone in the original, its already way better. Tons of people actually died under the plate but in this one, everyone or most people got out. Honey Bee Inn was a brothel but in the remake its just some club with live shows. In the Shin-ra building, the music cuts off and you follow the blood trail in the original but they dont even have speck of blood on president shinra in the remake because they dont want the M rating.

The Honeybee Inn is still a brothel in the remake, they just don't have Cloud get molested.

I played the original first and still prefer the remake.

To me it will be. Only part so far I'm hesitant on is Zack.

I loved Zack BECAUSE of how his story ended in crisis core.

But other than that the change in gameplay makes me not care about the other changes. I disliked the whispers or whatever they where called. Didnr mind the concept but sometimes they where too heavy handed with it. I felt they shoulda been more subtle. Not literally snatching cloud and aerith out of a room that the originally willingly ran out of. They shoulda done something more subtle that convinced them to leave the room

I enjoyed OG 7 well enough, but it never gripped me like it seems to have done to a lot of people. I felt the characterization specifically was lacking in a lot of areas.

Fate Ghosts be damned, at least the characters have been a blast and even the villains like Scarlet and President Shinra feel like they have more soul than their OG counterparts.

I think it has a chance of being better.

If rebirth is as good as it looks, that chance just got a lot higher. It really is like comparing apples and oranges though.

I still have my dusty-ass toys r us final fantasy 7 pre-order cloud t-shirt and was playing the OG version right when it released in north america lol. I'm just not a slave to nostalgia and can look at newer versions of my favorite games from my teenage or childhood years objectively.

The stuff you are nitpicking about is no different whatsoever from what is in the remake. The plate falls and.....you get a fmv sequence of people running away, and it blacks out with no bodies or corpses shown. In final fantasy 7 remake, there is a cutscene of the plate falling, fires and chaos everywhere and again, people running away. The characters said a ton of people died in the original game......which the exact same thing happens in the remake. With the honey bee inn, the only single thing you are complaining about is that gag character miyuki and his friends being in a tub with cloud getting removed (which got replaced with a crazy over the top dance number). The brothel implication with palmer chasing around bee ladies is still there. Hell the scenario with don corneo was toned up in the remake with the high definition graphics for the torture room and actually showing a scene of tifa and aerith being handed off to his goons.

The only actual toning down change was with the red blood with president shinra's corpse, and with that you have to take it up with japanese standards when it comes to violence in video games being a completely different thing now compared to what it was in the 90s. What got them a CERO equivalent of a T rating with the ESRB back in 1997 isn't going to fly these days and I am sure square-enix preferred to keep final fantasy 7 T rated/same with the CERO and PEGI rating.

Trust me, I am not shocked at all and expected that when it comes to a lot of posters on gamefaqs so its cool.

Gameplay wise its already crushed it. But story wise I dont think its going to surpass it personally. I get what they are going for and they are mixing it up but as it stands now they are removing all penalties of the main characters actions. In the original Avalanche probably actually caused the extensive damage in the first bombing run. Here its entirely Shinra. Also a big plate dropping kills basically noone but theres sad music so its still bad. Its all personal opinion though and a new game for a new generation so its going to have a good chunk of people that prefer it.

It all depends really. Some games just click with me and the gameplay can keep me invested for crazy long. I put like 400 hours into nioh 2, a little more than that for elden ring, and the most on the PS4 was monster hunter world+iceborne which I had more than 2K hours in that mofo. For rpgs I actually replay a good bit of them if again the gameplay is on point and there is a good bit of stuff to do on a new game plus. Some tales of games and whatnot. Tales of symphonia on the gamecube I played the bull-shit out of it and thought the whole thing was a great experience.

I put in a good bit of hours into FF7 remake since I actually liked going through on hard mode and doing the arena stuff, so if rebirth is going to do similar with the hard mode replay then I'm going to be into it.

Something like persona 5 is a struggle to replay multiple times though. Its going to be a lot of text and a lot of in-game days to go through, and I done played this mofo like 3 times for whatever reason. (2 play-throughs for the base version. One time for that blind don't worry about it run, and the second to 100 percent complete it. I then played through royal when that came out. My crazy ass bought the PS5 steelbook version of royal because amazon tempted me with a like 24.99 sale price like two months after it released but I didn't actually mess with it yet, lol).

Like if the gameplay stays consistent then I am going to do a endurance play-through of all 3 FF7 remake parts back to back.

The original is my favorite FF, and the remake has surpassed the original so far. I'll hold out my full opinion until I've played all three games.

Quite possibly, but it will ultimately depend on what changes are made to the story. Remake was a fantastic start to the project though. I thought it was a good expansion of many of the themes and areas covered in the comparable part of the OG game.

Nah. The pacing is too bad of the remake. Plus, it's a ho-hum action RPG, and there are way more of those than what FF7 was competing with back in the day.

I'll probably personally like it way more than the original when it's complete, but no, it won't be better than the original. It'll just be different, which is fine.
