https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/10/06/fox-news-gutfeld-war/

There's some political commentary before this, in the article.

During The Five on Thursday, Gutfeld was nowhere near amusing territory. Incensed by another of the channels endless lineup of stories about crime in urban America, Gutfeld offered up a tirade in which he suggested that voting in elections was futile and that the only solution to Americas problems might be war, as it was in 1861.

After all of those years at Fox, Gutfeld finally arrived at the place the channel pushes its viewers.
The panel was discussing a report that Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner long a target of the right planned to individually consider the charges against each of the 70 people arrested after a recent outbreak of looting. There certainly are some people in this group who are much more concerning than others, Krasner said.
On The Five, this prompted the on-screen text, LIBERAL DA COULD GO SOFT ON PHILLY LOOTERS. And this predictable framing, seen in Foxs own coverage of the story, triggered Gutfeld to a broader reaction.
Only certain people get criminal mulligans, he said, referring to the do-over rule in golf. And January 6 protesters, they dont get criminal mulligans, and heres why: Theyre the oppressor, right? So the oppressed get criminal mulligans.

He continued on a little riff in which Krasners decision was framed through a racial justice lens that Gutfeld derides.
Lets compare the rights between criminals and victims, he continued. Okay. The criminals, they get a mulligan. They get to steal up to $900 worth of stuff. They can loiter, sleep and shoot up in public areas, including playgrounds. They can loot and burn and call it social justice. They can pile up dozens of arrests and never do time. Meanwhile, what about us? Well, we have to change our lives to accommodate risk wherever we go. We have to move out of cities for the sake of the safety of our families and our own safety. Thats whats happening. Were being driven out of cities by the oppressed.
Then he mused about a solution.

We had a war over slavery. We knew slavery was inhumane and immoral, but somehow we couldnt solve slavery peacefully. It was an evil, he said. But one side refused to acknowledge that it was evil because it was too big of an admission for them to make. Doesnt that feel that way now that this defiant refusal to reverse this decline argues against the survival of a country?
What does that leave you with? he continued. It leaves you with you need to make war to bring peace because you have a side that cannot change because then that means an admission that their beliefs have been corrupt all the time. So in a way, you have to force them to surrender.

His co-hosts tried to interject. Former Democratic politician Harold Ford Jr. offered that voting against those in power was a better solution.

No, elections dont work. We know that. We know they dont work, he said.
Look what we have! he continued. We had a moderate president, and we have crime exploding everywhere. We had a Democrat president promise that he was going to be moderate. Promise that he was going to unite the country. And now we have a terrible education system. We have no border. We have crime everywhere. Every facet of society is in peril and in chaos because our elections dont matter.
A few years ago, I spoke with Princeton University political scientist Corrine McConnaughy. During our discussion, she outlined the importance of understanding elections as temporary shifts in power and, by extension, the danger of framing them the way Gutfeld did.

An important consideration for our system, McConnaughy said, was whether we had the tools to solve problems in ways that people feel represented, and that they feel their voice heard enough. To ensure that there is some way in which they can understand losing today is not losing tomorrow. That brings down the idea that every decision is a high stakes one.
Gutfelds argument is a reflection of failing to do that, seeing Joe Bidens victory not as part of Americas lurching path forward but a rupture. Voting against Biden wouldnt work, his argument offers; instead, you need to force [your opponents] to surrender.
You probably noticed that the rationales he offers for this need, the evidence he presents in service of his claim that America is broken, are overblown or just wrong.

There's more in the article but it's more political commentary.

Fascist fuck face who will never once pick up a weapon in an earnest defense of anyone incites and encourages others to fight and die.

Also, the day we stop believing democracy can work, is the day we lose it.

Something will happen. I believe there will be a 2nd Civil War. Might not look like the first one with orderly battle lines and borders. Probably will be a bunch of different conservative extremist groups all fighting for slightly different goals and maybe fighting each other as much as the government. It might look like the Irish "Time of Troubles". With constant domestic terrorism going on. I think we will have to struggle through that kind of stuff before we can get past this conservative bullshit

Sad thing is, he didn't used to be like this. Back in the early days of Red Eye he was still conservative leaning, but didn't take himself so seriously and wasn't so extreme.

These people cannot deal with the fact that reality has a liberal lean now and most people arent inherently conservative anymore. Its like were in the death throes of conservatism and theyre trying to do anything they can to retain power and relevance

We had a moderate president
Wasn't aware moderates attempt coups when they lose?

Everything after is just more lies along the same lines with the sole purpose of riling up supporters of that "moderate president" to go commit violence.

Hes a failed comedian and shill but it should concern people that Fox wants to use him to promote this hate and canned Tucker Carlson to do so b/c Tucker refused to take the lies that far. Also, if you ignore the main talking points his end goal is as insane and extreme as extreme leftists. The reasoning is different but the net result is the same.

Its almost like the talking points come from the same place?

Wow, a surprisingly honest take in all that gibberish. Republicans won't like that. Wasn't it about nebulous "states rights" or whatever?
