I... don't entirely disagree. Maya could be 1 or 2 though. Susato gets points for never really needing to play victim IIRC.

Athena isn't an assistant girl even if she sometimes play that role.

IIRC Luke Triton also spends some time as Phoenix's assistant in PLvsAA.

You're right, I won't... and judging by the context clues gathered up until this point, I for sure as FUCK don't want to.

I thought Susato was one of the more competent assistants in terms of investigation/trial progression and she had a lot of really enjoyable quirks and gimmicks. And I loved her in her case in GAA2. Trucy I just one-note and annoying. Ema was fine in RotA, I guess. Her and Lana were good. It was most everything else in the case that didn't work. But Ema's other appearances are annoying. Her Investigations 1 cameo was stupid and worthless and her attitude in AJ was just unappealing as hell for a detective character. She was fine in SoJ but she didn't have any of the charm of Gumshoe or Fulbright. I watched an Ace Attorney youtube video the other day that says she was also in Investigations 2 but I have zero memory of this, so it couldn't have been too bad.

It should have been for Apollo (the idea of calling 4 - 6 the AJ trilogy is made up marketing speak), but since they basically wrote him out of main character duty at the end of SoJ we're left with Phoenix and Athena and between Phoenix's continued Flanderization and Athena's annoying existence, it would probably be better to just end the franchise.

The main timeline is pretty much spent. I thought AA6 was the worst aa game personally

I'd agree with that. I know people have a hard on for hating on Investigations, but despite issues and a truly shitty case I think there's enough stuff in there to like that I genuinely don't have negative feelings towards it, except for when it goes on 90 minutes or so more than it should for no reason.

Investigations was my first game so I can't be objective about it. Although I do think case 3 has the worst evidence present in the series. Lang says the two kidnappers were planning the crime and you have to present a picture with 3 cups of water.

I think the worst evidence finding is in 4, wasn't there one time where they literally recreated the past to find a piece of evidence that wasn't there in the present?

4 is also definitely the worst game.

Despite not really liking any of the cases in 4 I have a soft spot for the game on a character basis. Valant Gramarye might be my favourite side character in the franchise and I think Klavier is one of the most engaging prosecutors. Kristoph is great and while Apollo is kept on a leash, it's just nice to have a different perspective than Phoenix's. I also like his interactions with Trucy as a character, just not really how she functions as an assistant character.

100% agree. I think 5 has some good concepts at play, but overall it very much feels like a regression. SoJ regresses even harder and has very few upsides to make up for it.

AA4 also has some GOAT tracks like A New Chapter of Trials, Truth 2007 and Testimony 2007. The music gives the game a lot of identity.

I have to disagree, like SoJ had some of the best cases, best case 2 which also saves game 4 a bit, and one of best last cases.

Case 5 is good on first blush until I thought about the ramifications of the timeline of events on Dhurke's responsibility as a parent

I think the last case in SoJ had some major issues. Firstly that we're on the sixth game of the series and we're still afraid of having attorney characters just fight each other in court, the most natural thing in their job, so though we want it, we don't want the implications and drama within the law office, so we're just gonna go with blackmail as the reasoning.

Farewell My Turnabout had a similar half hearted effort in portraying its negative side of being a lawyer, but it's much more forgiveable for the second game still building its characters, working in much more restricted confines of the GBA.

I essentially view that choice as the betrayal of their intent to never move Phoenix forward as a character. It was effectively the one moment they had in both game 5 and 6 to advance him and not just let him fall back into the "good ol' Phoenix!" comfy fan service role and they actively decided not to do it.

Secondly Sadhmandi was by far the worst prosecutor in the entire franchise and I don't feel sorry for or care about him now after a whole game of him being an unredeemable shitstain, so there really is no emotional core to the case. But also Queen Khu'rain or whatever her name was is just the most obnoxiously designed antagonist in the series. The whole of SoJ rides on a feeling of them just upping the ante in lieu of having anything interesting to say and she is the culmination of that worthless design philosophy. Why not just throw a latex supervillain into the prosecutor's chair? It is legit cringe.

There's good stuff in the case, Armie Buff is great, and the civil trial is also good despite the poor choices behind it. The Dhurke reveal was a legit shocker moment. It's by far the best case in SoJ, but they just don't manage to land it in a way that is truly great, or make up for the legit trash that came before it.
