RIP. Wish she retired before, though. Now introduces some complications.

From a "political calculus" point of view, her problem was running again in 2018, not that she didn't step down recently, as her stepping down runs into similar problems with judicial committee, etc.

And that of course makes a failure out of the people who supported her 2018 campaign. But I suspect that was hardly their first terrible political choice.

Laphonza Butler, a 44 year old Democratic political strategist, is rumored to be Newsoms choice to replace Feinstein.

He should have just picked Barbara Lee.

Will be interesting to see how shes received. She seemingly started out as a union organizer, advocate for higher minimum wage, and increasing taxes on the weathliest Americans, all pretty bread and butter stuff for lib circles, though she worked with Uber and AirBNB as well. Apparently worked hard for both Clinton 2016 and Harris 2020, being a longtime political ally for the latter especially.

Irregardless, for all intensive purposes, I could care less.

Ugh...she better not run for election in 2024 when we've got two amazing candidates already in Porter and Schiff.
(I hope Porter either wins it all or realizes she can't win soon enough to still run for her House seat, cause w/o her Dems are losing it)

"Feinstein authored and helped pass the federal assault weapons ban in 1994. The law expired in 2004, and along with other Democrats, including President Joe Biden, Feinstein advocated to reinstate it."

Not cool, Diane.

It actively saved lives. One of the cooler things she did.

The law was silly and arbitrary.

Also it's upsetting because this didn't stop criminals at all. They still had insane weapons. We just didn't have what it took (legally) to vy against them anymore unless we were grandfathered in.

What world do you live in? This Mad Max insanity that you can't out-shoot the "bad guys" because the AWB took away something you likely never had in the first place just... baffles me.

It did stop criminals, though. It greatly reduced firearms deaths that quickly shot back up when the ban expired.

Tons of people looking at the data in tons of different ways has determined that, yes, the AWB saved lives and reduced mass shootings to one degree or another.
