https://www.wxyz.com/news/grosse-pointe-shores-approves-controversial-pit-bull-ordinance

This comes after a pitbull, owned by current Detroit Lions player David Montgomery, attacked another owner and their small dog. The injuries broke two of the dogs legs, with one of the legs later being amputated.

The ordinance does have exceptions for current owners of licensed pit bulls.
Owners must meet a list of requirements that includes a 6-foot fence, keeping pit bulls on a leash and a $100,000 liability insurance policy in case the dog causes any damage or injuries.

Seems reasonable let's wait until the memers wake up to say that it's not

Good.

Now we just need every state to get on board and offer an equivalent punishment for the owner if their dog mauls / kills another person (I.E. if a Pit Bull harms someone, assault charge against the owner, and if a Pit Bull kills a person the owner gets charged for either Involuntary manslaughter or Third-degree murder).

If Pit Bulls aren't more violent or dangerous than other breeds and it's all about "training" then pit owners have nothing to be concerned about.

Add a muzzle to those requirements and I'm good.

Theyre sensible restrictions. But it should also apply to other large and dangerous breeds.
Should extend to all dogs tbh

Bites from small dogs aren't exactly enjoyable.

that is excessive to apply to all breeds and would completely kill owning a dog for majority of people. Only put on breeds that can be viewed as problematic/ dangerous.

Going by this list:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fatal_dog_attacks_in_the_United_States
I can't find a record of a "small dog" such as a Chihuahua actually killing someone.

You will be guaranteed $100,000. The cap on insurance will not cap lawsuits. As an insurance company, they will be required to pay and people will likely actually see at least that figure from some of these cases. Just because you win a million dollar lawsuit doesn't mean the person pays up, winning and getting the cash are two different things.

The real fight will be when the insurance company fights the action because the owner they cover supposedly didn't follow "x" rules and they claim they are not liable.
