I've had to go through 3 in the past 2 years (last of which was just last week). I also had another 2 that were detected in my kidneys around the time the 1st 2 became a problem.

I've been very fortunate with then though that 2 of them were small enough to pass on their own, 1 of which I feel like got broken down over the night I had to stay at an ER, and the other 2 broke down on their own before they got into the areas they could cause pain.

Still some of the worst experiences I've had in my life.

One cause of kidney stones is a build up of uric acid in the blood. A condition commonly known as gout. A condition that I have been dealing with for the last year. I have figured out how to keep uric acid down naturally with diet. The key is to not eat anything made with; high fructose corn syrup, yeast, beef, turkey, fish, game meat, oats, most fruits or any type of alcohol except for red wine.(thank Jesus for that one)
There's also foods that you CAN eat that helps keep uric acid low. Do eat; raw cherries (but be careful not to eat the pits, they're poisonous) & papaya. Just these two things daily will take care of most of the uric acid problems I deal with, so long as I don't eat anything in the don't eat list.

I'm afraid it's too late to help you this time TC, but at least it can help you keep it from coming back. Godspeed, and enjoy the good drugs.

I thought that gout uric acid crystals were made of different stuff than kidney stones.

Like gout attacks will eventually break down in the body. Kidney stones won't.

They both have same causal mechanism, in that the kidneys suck at being kidneys for some reason, and various minerals accumulate to the point of crystallization. Kidney stones can be made uric acid, among other things - usually multiple things.

I have a rare genetic disorder that presents as endless kidney stones. I am missing the gene with the instructions on how to process cysteine. It's very not soluable in water, so stones are constantly forming. I piss out some gravel every time I go, but about 2-3 times a week I pass a stone a couple cm and am usually in unbearable pain for 6-12 hours.

About twice a year they get big enough (6-8 cm) where they gotta knock me out and go up there and get em. That's the worst, because they usually leave a, "stint" in there for a couple weeks to make sure your ureter doesn't close up while it's healing from all the damage the stone did.

I had kidney stones early last year. Worst pain Ive ever felt in my life. It freaked me out because I didnt know what it was. It felt like a really bad stomach ache, like I had to poop, but nothing came out. I tried making myself throw up because I thought maybe that would help like when you have an upset stomach and puke and it feels better but I honestly couldnt even do that (I never knew it was so difficult to make myself vomit lol).

I kind of wish I had known what it was because I couldve saved myself a few grand by not going to the hospital

Drinking lots of water and avoiding specific other drinks will almost certainly prevent kidney stones.

It helps but it doesn't completely prevent them. Sometimes it's caused by having too much or too little calcium in your diet. Consuming high amounts of sodium (which is something to really keep an eye on since there's alot of food out there that can take you up to or even over the daily recommened limit) can also play a part in them forming.

There's other stuff that can cause them if you consume too much of it, but I don't exactly remember what all it is.

You most definitely have some control. If you drink only water and eat only healthy foods, you should be good. Unless it's genetic, or some rare disease that is.
But we all know how hard it is to eat healthy in America.

Had the procedure today and it seems to have went well. Gotta do a follow-up in a few weeks to know what was up. Overall, I was under for the whole thing, so I didn't have any super-duper pain to experience, although the whole "the stent makes you leak" issue isn't...fantastic.

EDIT: And because I haven't yet learned the composition of the stone, I got a pretzel crust pizza afterwards. =)

I once had a dark stream a few months back, but there wasn't any pain, so I didn't really associate it with kidney stones.

Naw, I'm up and about right now. There are definitely times I've had the pain (before I knew it was stones) that I laid on the floor, though. Sometimes I even napped there.

Got back home today and the whole blood issue seems to be getting weaker and weaker. Still kinda painful, but tolerable. Gotta go back in a few weeks to have the stent removed. Just gonna drink a ton of water (no lemonade...) for that duration, I guess.

I had surgery on my kidneys and since then ive had stones in that kidney and ive had a 4mm one fuck me up

I mean 1cm is .40 caliber bullet diameter. So you got a .40 fmj in your kidney

I have a genetic predisposition towards them. My dad does too. Staying hydrated significantly lowers my chances of forming any that give me trouble though.

The first stone I got as a teenager left me unable to even cry out for help. I woke up in the middle of the night in a slight discomfort that quickly evolved into thinking that I was dying.

Then it suddenly stopped and I had to pee. When you thought your life was ending and then the bright red piss triggers in your head that it was probably a kidney stone, it's a fucking relief.

Apparently I have (had) two big stones, but the biggest one was halfway to the bladder, so maybe it really did have a chance at passing. I just looked it up and it seems the probability is around 10% or something, so...maybe that's a long shot. But yeah, there's probably a genetic predisposition on my mother's side for this stuff.

Coffee can help your kidneys filter stuffs. Better put, it tells them to filter stuffs.
So drinking a few cups a day can help with gout.
I bet it could help kidney stones too. But only if you drink more water than coffee. Like a lot more.
